Coil Spring clamps
#4
You have to be very careful about using spring clamps; the problem is shortening the 'free height' so that the coil is loose on the seat at maximum reboud which could result in the spring popping out and you risk at least partial suspension collapse and towing home.
Proper spring clamps don't actually clamp one coil to the next but change the between coil separation to something less than before. The coils are actually clamped with a spacer between the coils to fix the separation. Properly done, the spacer differs one side to the other and some means is present to fix the clamp so it doesn't walk around the coil as it flexes.
That of course severely reduces the ride as its like using shorter but stiffer springs.
Now do you see why its not useful to use spring clamps? Only changing springs or coil overs will do what you're looking for.
cheers.
ps whats a little more? could you get what you want by grinding off a quarter inch on the seats of your springs? not the length.
