Serpentine belt

I saw a link about changing this but the pics are gone, now, do you really have to disconnect the alternator?

Any tips would be helpful, the Fit has 80K on it, 1st gen. I know it says 100K before changing but I would like to do this before winter.

Thanks.

Ed

No need to disconnect the alternator if you want to swap the drive belt out for a fresh one. I've done it myself, and it's a tight squeeze for larger hands but workable. The main thing you have to do is loosen the alternator's lock bolt and adjustment bolt. The adjustment bolt, I loosened almost to the point of removal.

What you MIGHT have to remove to ease belt swapping is the idler pulley. If you're dexterous enough you might get away with just loosening the alternator bracket, but I had to resort to wrenching out the idler pulley.

You'll need a 10mm and 12mm socket, and a closed-end wrench if you decide to take the idler pulley off.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, it does sound like a belt now, it's kind of like a hissing sound that comes and goes.
