Mr. Rusty under doors and more!
Mr. Rusty under doors and more!
Hi guys. I've noticed quite a bit of rust on my 2007. The worst is under the driver door :

The other doors have some rust, but it's not as bad, only surface:

And 2-3 small spots. Here is one above the driver window, on the frame :

So I got a quote from a local body shop for 720$. I asked them if they could use low quality paint, since it's under the doors but they told me that in New brunswick(Canada) the government oblige them to buy expensive high quality eco-friendly paint.
700$ is way out of my budget and I don't care that much about the look of my Fit, I just want it acceptable you know.
So would you recommend doing it myself or go for a body shop?
Aside from that, the car is running like new, I don't need to put any money in it.
Thanks!

rough up the spots with steel wool, get one of these kits: SUPER STARTER KIT - Black
then top coat with some matching spray paint you should be able to get at an auto parts store or the dealer. since these spots are in non-viewed areas, it insn't critical to have it look "show-room" new.
total cost under $50

Yep for just the surface rust some scotchbrite to rough it up a bit, careful taping, and hit it with something like rustolem or spray paint like that should do it.
While you are down in that area make sure the drain holes in the door bottom are free of obstructions looks like that my be your problem.
