Used 2007 LX 295,000 kms...how much?

Hey again,

Thanks for reading and helping me make a decision. What would be a fair price for a 2007 LX 5 spd with 395,000 kms?

They are asking $5200

If you check Canadian Black Book avg asking price, it's off the chart..probably hovering around $2000: https://www.canadianblackbook.com/bl...D%20Hatchback/

Now I'm not opposed to swapping in a newer engine down the road, but is $2000 a good deal? Ball park of how much it would be to rebuild the current engine?

I messaged them with the above link and explained the avg asking price, hopefully they get a reality check and maybe we can get a low price on a decent Fit.

I would be concerned with more than just engine. At 400,000 everything is going to be well worn. Even at say $2000 you may well be putting a lot more into it. I would look for another one.

But, if has maintenance records and certified then maybe 2500-3,000?

Unless you have a hoist and plan on swapping the engine yourself, you'll have to pay well over 2000$ for a swap. Since the stock engine gets mediocre gas mileage, might as well stick in a more powerful k series engine. The price of the used k series is probably moot compared to all the extra mounts and stuff you have to buy.

If your goal is saving money I'd look for another. If you buy this as a project car and expect to spend thousands or have the knowledge to change the engine then yea, it might be worth it.

This will be a project car and we plan on keeping it for many years. So as long the body is good that's the main thing. I got a reply from them and they dropped the price to $3400 so I'm gonna have a look at it at least. Thanks for the feedback.

Turns out the owner made a mistake and put 295,000 kms on the ad, when it actually has 251,000 kms. That's a little better!

So we bought the car! So far so good. Inspection and oil change went well, minor surface rust but nothing major. Needs some graphite spray for the drivers door and a rear passenger window switch.

It's a fun little car to drive. The wife and I will be giving it a good cleaning tomorrow. Can't wait to tinker with it!

Congrats. If it has been serviced regularly, mileage isn't a major concern. A friend of mine has over 600k miles on a Honda Accord with no major engine work.
