2003 Jazz/Fit Electrical Cut-Out and Stalling
2003 Jazz/Fit Electrical Cut-Out and Stalling - Solved!
Hi All,
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem!!
I have an '03 Jazz that has this very random glitch. You will be driving along, and for a split second it will cut out and then kick back in (most of the time). Sometimes it will start to rev out when it kicks back in, but not all the time
It is pretty much random when it does this, but when it does it does!
Sometimes it doesn't kick back in and stalls - other times it will just cut-out for no apparent reason.
Below are some videos of the problem:
2003 Honda Jazz Problem! - 1 of 3 - YouTube
2003 Honda Jazz Problem! - 2 of 3 - YouTube
2003 Honda Jazz Problem! - 3 of 3 - YouTube
The car has been to Honda as well as an independent mechanic, and neither could find anything wrong with it. It's throwing no codes (even though the engine light comes up).
It has new plugs, new fuel/air filter, new main relays, EGR valve unplugged (and it still happens). I'm yet to try the Coil Packs, as they're quite expensive.
Anyone got any ideas or seen this before??
Thanks!

Hi All,
Just thought that I would post an update that this has now been solved (in two ways!)
First way, was I sold the car - so no longer my problem!! Second way, the new owner kindly kept me informed of what was wrong as he was diagnosing.
He initially thought it was the throttle body, so thought it was an easy fix. Turned out that wasn't the case, and it was actually the CPU. He replaced that, and the Jazz was back to normal.
He was a Honda mechanic, and did have another 3 or so Jazz's sitting in his driveway - so parts were plentiful.
Hope this will help others out with the same problem!

ECU Confirmed!!
Can confirm the above.. ECU! 2003 Jazz GD (same as thekerr) but Manual instead of Auto. My symptoms looked exactly the same as the above youtube videos (plus the engine cutting out!). No codes ever logged on the ECU... because it was the ECU.
Would CEL occasionally regardless of the weather but not actually cut out. But in sunny/warm/hot weather, CELs galore, lurching, repeated complete engine cut outs (while accelerating or whatever, didn't matter). And once it started doing it, it was all over. Mine was also a lot better if it was cloudy (but warm) so I suspect it has to do with the sun heating up the panel & cavity where the ECU is (front passenger side kick panel).
2nd hand ECU did the job. Actually had the ECU tested a while ago (incl simulating heat conditions) and it passed their tests, so don't take testing as gospel...
I suggest diagnosing it by seeing if having the aircon on makes any difference or not.
For reference, list of parts replaced:
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump Relay
Fuel Pump Pressure Regulator
Main Relay
Spark Plugs
Ignition Coils
Crank Angle Sensor
ECU Tested!
Blocked off EGR inlet & unplugged EGR valve
Cpl other Relays tested
ECU (Bingo)
Many thanks to thekerr for steering me in the right direction.. hopefully this helps someone else out there.
Also like to note that Victoria's "lemon laws" are completely and totally useless, along with Consumer Affairs.... if you end up in the same boat as I did with a dealer (they wouldn't refund my money but also couldn't find the problem or fix it, so just denied), just save yourself the time and go straight to VCAT or a lawyer.
Also disappointing that Honda have no issue seeing their brand getting trashed by disreputable dealers. Next car definitely won't be a Honda....
