New GD3, but no manual and a bit confused

Hi,
I have just got a new 2006 Fit 5 speed manual and it didn't come with a user guide.

I received two keys with the car and one has a central button. Does this mean I have remote locking or an alarm?

I replaced the battery in it but when I press it, nothing happens. Is there a way for me to check to see if I do have an alarm or remote locking feature?

Also, when I start the car a green temperature icon appears on the speedo and stays on for a few minutes. When I drive with this icon illuminated, it does seem to miss a bit and is a bit jerky. Is it just telling me that the car is not warmed up?

Love the car and the seating system is great.

Never saw a key like that, can't help you there.

The idiot light is telling you the engine is not yet up to normal operating temperature. Even when cold though, the car should still run smoothly. If it's not you may want to look further into why not.

^^ Ditto on the cold temp light. It monitors the engine's coolant temperature.

That key doesn't even looking like an OEM Honda key. Unless Honda has different key designs for different markets, the key you have is an aftermarket unit that was simply cut and programmed to for your vehicle. You can try programming the "fob" to the car to check if you have keyless entry. Simply cycle the key from the "OFF" to "ON" (not running) position, press the "LOCK" on the fob, then cycle back to "OFF". Repeat this 2 more times... Once you've cycled to the "ON" position for the third time you should audibly hear the lock actuators cycle once you press the fob button. Note: If you have multiple keys, press the "LOCK" button on all of them while the key is still in the "ON" position or they're keyless entry function could be lost.

If you hear them cycle, programming is complete and you have keyless entry. If you do not then you either have a key which cannot be recognized by the keyless entry, haven't done the keyless learn sequence properly, or just do not have keyless entry (call/go to Honda's parts department with VIN number in hand to confirm).

Regarding the missing and jerking... What is the mileage on the car and do you have any service history on it? If no history, I'd start on the bare basis. Spark plugs (4 on VTECs, 8 on i-DSIs) and a valve adjustment then go on from there in assessing the vehicle if the miss/jerk is still there.

As above, I cannot comment on the key, but the green temperature light is simply indicating that the car is not fully warmed up yet. Note: Until the green temperature light goes off, the engine will not go into VTEC. Perhaps that is the jerking you are experiencing, i.e., the ECU is limiting your RPMs until the engine is warm.

I'm with the others about the key, that is one of them the aliens dropped here to test us with I rekon.

The light is normal, it is telling you it is cold. Get a 20 buck eBay OBD2 plugin and the Torque app, then you will know what the real engine temp is. But don't really sweat it, unless you are driving in -20 temps, you can start and drive any modern car with no issues.

Many thanks for the replies guys...much appreciated.

I tried the key cycling trick that you suggested Hootie, but didnt hear the actuators working after the 3rd go.

Tried it a few times and nothing happened.

I am going to get a car stereo fitted in a couple of days time, so might see if the electrician can confirm that I definitely don't have remote locking.

Might see if I can pickup some spark plugs as suggested and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks again,

Jarod
