jack compatibility...
jack compatibility...
We have a 2008 Fit, base model - modded with an aux port thanks to the handy tips on this forum
Recently we had water behind the passenger-side front seat, and then on the weekend I found water by the spare tyre. But that's another thread. The water by the spare tyre made our jack and various tools all nice and rusty. I found several replacements on eBay, but not all claim to be compatible back to the 2008 model. Are there differences in the jacks? Or would a 2010 jack work on a 2008 model? I can't really imagine how or why there would be differences -it's a jack, after all- but just want to check.
Thanks

Most car jacks that come with the car are identical or universal (except the ones that come with SUVs, trucks, they rise higher). However, you should always keep load limits in mind, it says 1870 lbs on the jack that came with the Fit, and that's more than enough to lift one corner of the car with no issues.
I've raised the Fit with a ton of jacks. How do you think all those shops work with all sorts of cars? They have one kind of jack, that's how! lol

You might want to check any local junkyards for a jack (besides ebay); I'd guess that you may be able to get one for not very much money, since a jack isn't a high-demand part and is quite likely to be undamaged in junked cars—perhaps even unused.
I'd get a bottle jack from autozone. They are compact (about twice the size of a coke can in volume) and provide more stability than the awful sizzor jack. The included sizzor jack is a real bare bones solution; kinda like having a couple of sticks to rub together in the woods to start a fire
it works, but I would never spend money to replace that jack with the same thing. Spend 15-20$ on a bottle jack rather than go through the hassle of trying to replace the OEM jack.
