Need Help: Replaced remote battery but nothing works

Hi, I have a 2008 Honda Fit Sport and I just replaced the remote battery (CR1616) and when I put the new battery in, I clip the 2 plastic pieces together and the a red light blinks a few times and then stops. None of the buttons will work. I have tried holding down the lock/unlock buttons to see if I can get the blinking red light again but nothing happens.

I've replaced honda remote batteries in our former cars and never had this issue.

Any information is gladly appreciated and I thank you in advance!

something I've started doing now when I replace batteries in anything is to check their voltage with a multi-meter. Even for batteries that I've just purchased. I find a few BRAND NEW batteries that have less voltage than they should. if the light on the fob came on a few times, then quit, the battery is what I would check first.

What was it? Connection, battery voltage, fuse?
