My dead battery in my 08 fit

First thread and new user to the site. I've recently bought an 08 honda fit with 101k..it now has103k. Well i wake up this morning to a dead battery. Oh no right..but It troubles me how this could of happen? Before locking the car last night I was in may car listening to music(everything is stock) so what could gone wrong here? New battery? New alternator? What steps can I take to get this fix.

Thanks for your time.

Do you have any idea how old the battery is? Could simply be an old, bad battery; I'd have it tested. If the charging system were at fault, you should've had a warning light.

Sweet! Now's the time to install a battery for grown ups! Head on down to your closest Costco/ SAMs club and get a 51r battery! Search the forums for the thread on installing this.

Battery can run accessories but not start the car (requires to many amps).
Battery light would have come on if the alternator wasn't charging properly. Battery is probably just old and needs replacing.

I never asked when I got the car. I wanna assume it was the original battery. No warning light has come up other then trying to turn it on the faded warning lights.

I was told not to go Costco or Sams club based on experience. My father in law has an 05 odyssey with over 200k miles. He had a Costco battery in the car at one point and the battery corotated the positive cable. So I went to a honda delership and payed 165 for a bettery.

Thanks for the info. It helps because I though maybe it was the alternator based on my experience and my luck. I got a new batter with a 3 year replacement and 100 month pro rated price.

My '08 Sport 5MT original battery was still going strong last year...but I didn't trust it to last one more Midwest winter, so I went to Napa Auto last November and got the original 151R size replacement for around $75 with a bunch of discounts (I'm on their mailing list).

I went with an OEM battery. You can't go wrong with a honda battery

Good on you. The Honda Fit has a weird size that other battery brands can't really fit exactly, even when they say 51r. I have an Odyssey PC925 battery that's supposed to be 51r, but I had to do too many ghetto mods for it to fit. I've heard that the Costco Kirkland battery doesn't really fit either; and the Interstate one looks a bit taller than the Honda one too.

u guys ever think about adding water to your battery? they say maintenance free, but they really arent much different from other car batteries. the 09 GE i had, i added distilled water to the cells. it lasted the 7yrs ownership and was still plenty strong when i traded in last week.

car was driven short distances by my wife often, not really cared for with any special attention.

i noticed on my 16 they dont have the blue battery indicator any more? no issue though, my other cars dont either. i'd add water every 3yrs just to be safe. do it immediately after a drive while the battery is fully charged (or use a battery tender to float the battery before doing the work). u can use a spray bottle in stream mode or a tatoo bottle to add water. make sure you dont get any of the acid on your hands or clothes from the caps. it is extremely acidic. wear gloves and goggles.
