2007 Sport new2me: advice?

I just got a 2007 Fit Sport, automatic, with less than 30K. It's been well maintained, according to the service records, and my mechanic agreed.

Any pointers or advice?

Thanks

If you live in a cold area, once your battery starts dying, upgrade to a 51r (bigger) battery. I recommend tinting windows and Clazzio seat covers to make the interior nicer.

I also recommend doing the A/C condensor gutter guard protection mod. Should have mentioned it first. Search the forum for it. There is a big gap in the bumper and some people have their ac condensor ruined by rocks that strike it from the highway. It's practically invisible when installed and is peace of mind.

Be aware that many maintenance recommendations have a TIME as well as a MILEAGE interval. So, even with that low mileage, you would be well-advised to do some maintenance. Things like ATF or coolant replacement.

Some otherwise well-meaning folks think that doing oil changes every year is the definition of 'well maintained'. Sadly, it isn't so.

Thanks much. I read about the AC condenser issue in Edmonson's *Lemon Aid,* a favorite book about used cars, and am happy to find a relatively simple fix.

I'd gap the plugs and clean the contacts for the coil packs just for the age of the vehicle. At 50K miles, my plugs needed to be regapped and the contacts were showing signs of dirt or corrosion. I'm at 103K now and no coil problems to date. I changed to new plugs at 100K miles.

You can probably wait until 50K or later to do the valve adjustment. I just did mine for the first time at 100K and it mostly cured a little idle hunt but nothing was seriously wrong with the engine performance prior to doing the adjustment on my 2008 Base VBP Fit.

The two big things with age (vs miles) are rubber parts and greased parts. Check the suspension bushings, brake piston boots etc. You might consider just putting in a new serpentine belt because it's so cheap. My engine was quieter after changing my belt at 100K miles.

Make sure the VTEC is working - there were a few failures of the VTEC oil pressure valve. You should notice an increase in engine power when it gets above 3k rpm.

There were early failures in the electric power steering - make sure the steering is easy and smooth.

It probably has the original coolant which is fine but air gets into the system as it ages. Enough of it can cause a whoooshing sound during start up. Nothing's broke - just add some genuine honda coolant to the overflow tank.

I would inspect and replace the brake fluid if it is needed. 2-3 bottles of honda brake fluid is all that is necessary for a brake job and they run about 5$ a bottle.
