Question Troubleshooting Keyless Entry

Recent new owner of a used 2007 Fit. It came with keyless entry but the thing barely works.

I checked the module installation instructions and everything seems in good shape, plugged into the right places, fuse in place.

A few times when I change a battery in the remote it'll lock/unlock but only for a couple clicks and generally speaking it just doesn't work.

By this, I know the remote is programmed to the car properly, and I have 5 batteries I've cycled in the remote in case that was the issue. This also tells me the 20A fuse is OK also. The light on the remote lights up on every button press as well.

I got a second remote (basically the same but with trunk release) for free, and have tried programming it with no luck as well. Just won't give me the lock/unlock confirmation at the end of it.

I feel like the car/module itself isn't transmitting properly which is why I can't get either working but of course getting a new module isn't a cheap "troubleshooting" step if anyone has other suggestions.

Thanks,
Jesse

I bought a brand new Energiser battery and new 20A fuses and still the same issue. I took pics of the module and will post shortly, with P/N too

Alright well I found another module online, ordered it and still won't program with either remote.

Does anyone else have any other thoughts?

Are there other dependencies in the system like a minimum car battery voltage or anything else that it would need to work correctly?

I'm still confused why it worked a few times periodically at first, and sometimes just once or twice after changing a battery then just stop working again completely.. and not every time you change a battery either.

Is your remote fob built into the head of the key?

Did you try a new remote fob, one ordered specifically for your car from a Honda dealership?

Borrow a known good fob from an identical car and program it to yours as a test?

No, they are separate

No, since this fob had worked with lock and unlock and the dealership is too expensive and apparently the remote is no longer available to order (as told by a friend that is a mechanic at the dealership). I didn't ask them myself as they sold the car to us as-is and the assumption was a dead remote battery at the time

This was a thought, just need to find someone willing haha

Also, I'm going to try disconnecting the battery this weekend to reset it, but I'm fairly certain this was already done to reset an engine code that was on the car when it got safetied.. Then I'll try reprogramming again

I'm looking at a Canadian parts diagram, it shows the remote fob is in the head of the key...and it looks like it is for Fit Sport only.

Key assembly is part #7 in this catalog link: Toronto Honda Parts - Parts List

I wonder what you have if it's not built into the key......Got a pic of your remote fob?

EDIT: I'm in the US, my fob looks like this one

Oh jeez, I forgot the factory keys for the 07 are stupid expensive, one-year-only deal.

Have your dealership buddy check out this thread about converting the 07 to a different more common and much cheaper immobilizer system, which will allow use of much cheaper keys.
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-generation-gd-01-08/90854-2007-sport-cheaper-factory-key-how.html

That first post was written AS we figured out how to do this to my fit. It is literally detailing the process we went through converting the 07 Fit Sport I bought last year.

Another cheap option might be to go with an aftermarket keyless system.

This isn't a Fit Sport so I read about the module from the Sport that can be added which is what must have been done prior to our purchase of it. I even have the OEM remote programming module so possibly it was added from factory.

Remote on the left came with the car and is the one that has worked a handful of times, I can't get either to program with either module that I have though.

The key is programmed to the car, as it indicates on the dashboard with the blinking indicator when the car is turned on.

The module below is the one I just got, as you can see the P/N is the same as the one in the car from the above photo.

As you can see, College Hills Honda that I see referenced a lot here has that P/N listed as working in the'07-08 Fit, and I have a PDF linked below that I used to verify it's connected properly. I guess next up would be taking electrical readings but I'd have to refresh myself on how to do so and know what should be sending a signal as well

Ok I found (in a US parts catalog) that receiver was part of a keyless entry kit that could be dealer installed on the lower trim level cars.
I assume the same kit was available for Canada and that's how it got into your car.

Same part number was also used on several Civics and Elements too as part of a keyless entry kit.

The ebay transmitter does not look legit to me. Looks like a cheap clone. Not surprised it does not work.

Your transmitter number 08E61-S5D-1M001 should match your receiver, but when I entered it into the Canadian catalog link above it was not a valid part number there. Odd, IMO.
I didn't see any other Canadian Honda dealers online with a catalog I can browse and this one (Toronto) doesn't show available accessory listings.

That transmitter part number, I found is still readily available in the US.....maybe you can get one from a legitimate US dealership online and get it shipped across the border?

You posted while I was trying to check out part numbers LOL

I have a unit that can indicate relative signal strength of a keyless entry transmitter, but it cannot decode the signal to tell if it is doing the correct things.

I don't know if your dealer person up there would have the same equipment. Our ATEQ tire pressure sensor tool does this. I did not think Canada market cars got tire pressure sensors but I'm not positive on that.
