High pitched whining accompanied by engine drag

Hello,

Long time follower so I guess I should have joined at some point. Um, 104k stock NHBP 2008 Fit. As the weather is warming up I am noticing that I may be developing a problem. As I take off I have this high whine directly attributed to RPMS so I believe it is based off crankshaft/belts. I can chalk this up to a variety of things but what concerns me more is that it's dragging the motor. Whatever it is when it goes away it is like a light switch off and the motor feels much more alive.

I guess I have narrowed it down to alternator/ tensioner. Anybody else had this issue and or any insight? Just grabbed an open box Tanabe Medallion and will be here Monday but apparently the car doesn't want new parts.

I swapped the belt and tensioner on mine when i first got it, it was definitely affecting the alternator (Belt slip?)

I don't think it is belt slip. At least it doesn't sound like a typical belt. I guess I should price that out. Labor is worst part if I remember, no room in the bay.

Took < 1/2 hour and two wrenches, no way I'd pay dealer rates for that. Yea its a little fiddly to get the bolt out of the tensioner, I used a box end ratcheting wrench made it easy..

I will have to look it over and see how easy it comes out. Might just be good practice at 100k anyways. Thanks.

I feel like I have this same issue. 193k miles, 08 AT Fit. It does it in gear on decel I get a whine not too different from the reverse gear whine... it's not as loud but it's there and easily noticeable. I feel like it's more pronounced when the car is attempting to engine brake on steep declines. Accelerating, there is no such noise, only decel. Any clues?

Decel sounds more like an auto just doing auto things and engine braking. Check fluids just to make sure.

Mine is only accelerating and I've come to assume that it is a combination of a low power motor, the need of a valve adjustment (Explains the significant loss of power. It has been done and power is back.) and the A/C compressor being on.
