That 2nd gear downshift grind....

Hello everyone. I kinda have a problem. I have a 2008 Fit Sport with 266k as of now. It's been doing me pretty well ever since I bought it brand new in 2007. Yet, I am having a slight problem in the transmission. Whenever I downshift into 2nd, it grinds. Everything else is okay. I'm just wondering what might be causing it?

Worn out or cracked blocker ring (brass syncro ring), along with rounded gear teeth from the grinding.... Gonna have to open up the trans to do anything about it.

What gear to 2nd? How fast where you going when switching to 2nd gear? Shifting from 1 to 2 is there a grind?

3rd to 2nd, I don't really rev all that high. 1st to 2nd is functional.

Replacing the trans fluid with Honda MTF MIGHT help somewhat.

But at that mileage, I'd either learn to live with it, or budget for a tranny rebuild (new syncros).

Are you familiar with the subject of Rev-Matching? (Blipping the throttle when downshifting so that the speed of the driven gears matches that of the other gears.)
This was necessary before the invention of synchronizers... those transmissions were called Crash-Boxes. LOL

Yes, I did replace the fluid. I It was doing that before the fluid was replaced. It looks like I'm just gonna have to not downshift to 2nd anymore. I used to do a lot moutain running, in which this car is so much fun to do. I'm either thinking of rebuilding the transmission with an lsd or a k swap. I also do have another car that I'm trying to get running and use that. So it's just gonna cost me any way I go, oh well. Thank ya'll.

I'd google double-clutching in the meantime. Not only will it eliminate the grinding (well, you won't always get it right), but you'll feel like a badass when you get it right.

Have you try rev matching like the above statement, i always rev match if downshifting directly to lower gear without hiting the brake to slow down. Sometimes if your not low enough on speed on a certain gear the trans will lock you out if you dont rev match.
