Adjust idle speed?

hi 2008 LX MT here. I idle at 900RPM, and wonder if lowering the idle speed will save gas at stop lights. How to lower engine idle, and how to determine how low to go? thanks

Someone who knows will chip in, but I doubt it's like the good ol' days of simply turning a screw to set it. Probably has to be adjusted thru the throttle position sensor or the ECU or something new-fangled like that. :^)

Looks like there is a screw, just like the old days! Looking to hear from Fitfreaks who have lower idles than approx 900, or who have lowered their idle speeds manually, before I do it.

Don't touch any screws.......If you don't know exactly what you are doing, you're just begging for trouble.

Idle speed is computer controlled, using the electric throttle plate (throttle by wire).

You cannot adjust idle RPM unless you alter the ECM programming.

You might, however, try a memory dump and an idle relearn.

I'd leave well enough alone. You won't save a noticeable amount of fuel with 100 RPM less.

If you are in a situation where you are stopped for a long period of time (waiting for a long railroad train, or a known two-minute traffic light cycle, or a friend runs into a Tim Hortons for coffee) I have read that the rule-of-thumb 'break-even' is 15 seconds of idling. Of course, if you wear out your starter, you won't save any money!

The idle speed screw in the throttle body is set by the manufacture if I recall correctly and I would HIGHLY recommend NOT adjusting.

IF you are determined to lower your idle speed, invest in Hondata Flash Pro and lower it with that. Idle speed adjustment is just the tip of the ice berg via Flash Pro as it is a very good tuning program for our Fits. You could benefit with doing fuel and ignition tuning to both bump up your power AND improve fuel economy depending on your configuation.
