Broken Valve Cover Bolts--Replacement?

Hey all, I've been following the fantastic video tutorial made by Koolkevin1107 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=darifCUJf2A) in order to adjust my valves. Got halfway through the procedure (boy were those exhaust valves tight!), but when I used my torque wrench to tighten the valve cover bolts to the proper specs (saw here that it required 7.7-8.8 ft-lbs aka 92-106 in-lbs of torque--I used 85in-lbs), 5 of the bolts snapped.

After I changed my pants, we painstakingly got the bolt pieces out of the threads by using either an extractor or a tiny needle-nose pliers and turning by hand very slowly. However, I'm 5 bolts short of a full set (metaphors are great, aren't they?).

The rubber grommets appear fine, so I'd like to reuse them and just grab some replacement bolts. I've found a part that works, but it has the grommet attached, and it's $13 per bolt at the dealer... (Part #90011-PWA-000).

However, I've found one for the 2nd generation Fit (I've got a GD 01-08). It has no grommet, it looks the same, and it's $3 per bolt (Part # 90013-RGA-000).

Does anyone know if I can buy the second, cheaper part and reuse the grommets? Alternatively, does anyone know the thread type/pitch and any other specs for the bolt offhand? I'm going to head to Advance soon and see if I can match the bolt with one they have there...

Thanks for your help!

The screw is M6 (1mm pitch); try using 20 or 25 mm long hex head bolts.
The grommets are OUTSIDE of the gasket, so no oil leak should result if replacement bolts are tightened uniformly.
PS your torque wrench may not be accurate

Done!

It sure is an M6, 1.0. I opted for a 35mm flange-head bolt with a single washer to replace. Sawed off each original bolt to extract the rubber grommet. Ended up replacing all 7 because 6 snapped and the only original bolt wasn't tightening like it should have--felt like it bottomed out before really snugging the cover shut.

Dealer initially asked $24/piece for the exact replacement (90011-PWA-000), then gave me such a generous discount down to $13/piece. I went to Ace and picked up 7 bolts and 7 washers for $6. And they work!

Moral of the story: If you snap your bolts, just run to Ace or wherever and get M6 1.0 bolts. Length is up to you, though 35mm + washer (to give a larger surface for the grommet to grip to) works great.

Thanks Dr. J for your advice!

Based on my 07 GD,,
The bolts on the valve cover are depth controlled, there is a ridge around the stock bolts.. Hand tight with a 1/4 inch drive socket wrench, tight firm. They look the same as a BMW v-cover bolt, I tightened mine like I do my 330XI valve cover.. When the bolt bottoms out its put the proper pressure on the o-rings(And the valve cover).. Unless the o-rings are old or crushed.

The valve cover itself takes very little pressure to seal up, Its a o-ring seal.
