Power Steering Intermittently Working
Hi everyone! I just purchased a 2007 Fit with 135k miles on it and everything has been going great - minus that the electric power steering intermittently quits working. Sometimes it works no problem for an entire trip. Other times when I start the car it does not work. I let the car sit for a bit and it will work again - but if it sits again for any length of time it will quit working. Is this a common problem? What are the 1st things I should do to diagnose and fix this problem? Thanks!

I have never heard of this as a common problem. The power steering draws a lot of current, so I would suggest checking and cleaning the electrical connections. A dirty connector, carrying lots of amps, drops the volts very easily.

There was a warranty extension on the power steering for some 07-08 Fits to 10 years (from original owner purchase) or 150k miles. DTC 32-09 or 61-04. I'd check with your local Honda dealer to see if you have any recourse though them.

Check your serpentine belt. The serpentine belt powers the alternator, power steering, AC, water pump, etc. It could be that the belt is loose while cold, and the belt warms up(expands) until it grabs something.
My car kept having jerking motions while running for about 7 months. I thought it was the plugs so I changed them. I checked the coils, but they all seemed pretty good. Then I changed the serpentine belt and it all went away.
