This is a knock, right?

My new-to-me 2008 Honda Fit Sport M/T has an engine knock. It has 230k miles.

On cold start, there is no knock. Once well-warm, the knock is almost inaudible. But between those two conditions, it sounds like this. When the AC is on, I can't hear the knock - not sure if it's gone, or I just can't hear it over the compressor and fans.

Adjusted valves and changed oil last weekend.

It didn't knock when I checked the car out before buying it - because it was well warmed up! Anyone else have a high mileage fit they could record?

Piston slap, timing chain slack and dancing piston rings. Thanks to new emission requirements, MPG competition and aluminum engine. Many Fit owners are noticing this knock around 50,000 miles. Replacing engine with low mileage one makes no difference.

I suppose if it's been doing it since 50k, then it's been running like this for the last 180k... and isn't about to blow up.

Sure makes me miss my 420k SR20-powered Nissan Sentra! That engine still sounded great.

My car does it for the past 5 years /40,000 miles
No metal shavings in oil
No sludge under valve cover
No visible wear on the cam lobes either

That gets me too - this engine is very clean inside, even after so many miles - Honda must have gotten something right. How many miles are on yours?

I hear two things...

1. The valvetrain seems awfully noisy for having just been adjusted. You sure it's spot on?
2. Possible clutch noise? Does it make that sound if the clutch is pushed in?

Ours makes that knocking sound, but it goes away when the clutch is pushed in.

Thanks GAFIT - yeah, valves are spot on. My phone seems to amplify the valve train noise - I'm not worried about this. It does make less noise when the clutch is pushed in, but I'm not worried about that either.

I am worried about the deeper clunk clunk clunk under all those other "normal" noises.
