09 Fit Engine / Tranny Durability?
So I am seeing alot of interest in boosting L15A engines but can the cylinder sleeves and pistons handle the extra pressure? It seems that step one towards boost should be getting your engine sleeved and rebuilt to accomodate high boost?
Regarding the transmission, I am interested in an automatic for the paddle shifters (I do not own a fit yet), but I am wondering how much HP and Torque can be safely put through a low end paddle shifted transmission like that. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a fit but it is essentially an econobox, and I must wonder how much power the tranny can handle.
I am not planning on a massively built car but is 140-160 hp safe through a stock auto tranny? Is is possible to upgrade the auto tranny and retain paddle shifting?

man, all i can say is look to an recent post i made about the L15A7 engine and Formula Fords series. They are going to use our engines with total STOCK internals and everything else (aside from a few bespoke items such as: dry sump oil system. and new intake manifold for the formula type intake they have. other than that-its TOTALLY STOCK! and by the way. HPD (the performance arm for racing at Honda) ran the engine on a engine brake for 40+ hours at 6000rpm w/ no failures AND the engine was NOT out of spec!!! so if that doesn't prove its reliability....then I don't know what will! Now the tranny.....that's a totally different worry.

Original poster: you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who's boosted the GE engine as nobody has posted that they've done it yet.
We have made 12psi of boost successfully on FIT GE AT with Garrett GT28RS turbocharger . The tranny is fine.
However, you must have an ATF cooler installed in case of ATF overheat.
I will post the the whole piece of work in couple days.

Chrysler had a bizzare way to test the new Hemi for thermal shock that was a real pein for the motor... dont remember what it was but i think it was putting -sumthin' °F Coolant in a properly warmed Motor repeted number of times....
As for any A\T of any brand, check the fluid frequently!! If it's brownish and smell burned, change it no matter what!! If you put a Turbo, install a small A\T cooler and try to monitor Fluid temps at load!!
MArko!!

I have a boosted Honda City ( Thailand), basically same engine as the fit. Running 0.5 bar boost, Fujitsubo exhaust, Tein racing suspension, ATS lsd, racing clutch, Mugen short shifter, Greddy Ultimate ECU,ATS 6 pot brakes, E-Drive throttle controller and standard 5 speed gearbox. I have had no trouble with the gearbox at all. With an automatic you might have some problems witht he torque converter though and you MUST install a ATF cooler or else you will definitely have trouble. I Thailand the L15A engine is amde here in BKK and the quality of the engine parts can be questioned. I will be going to high boost later this year but will be doing some internal upgrades to the engine before i do so on recommendation from Honda Racing here in Thailand. Good luck and hope this helps in some way.
