I've heard of someone swapping in a K20 Final Drive in an M/T Fit before for shorter gears, but can the same be done for the A/T?

Looking at Majestic Honda, the Final Drive bolts right onto the differential, and from what I can understand about Automatics, the differential is located in the transaxle, which is independent of the transmission (As far as gears go)



They show the same 10 bolt pattern as an M/T Final drive gear. Same with the countershaft.



So my question is...could the 5.01 OE Final Drive out of a K20, or any aftermarket final drive be used to replaced the final drive gearing for the Automatic Transmission, just like the manual transmission?

Before anyone tells me to try it myself, I'm a little skeptical of taking my brand new Fit apart later down the road to try this, and to find out it won't work or to have problems. I want to be sure it's a working swap.

 

I would like to know if it can be done.

 

Kind of an old thread, but after doing some research, it would be a great swap for the OEM 5.06 K20A final drive. At 7000 RPMs, the A/T would be turning 132 MPH in 4th. That's already above the top speed limiter, but it reaches that quicker as opposed to the 140-something MPH of the factory final drive.

EDIT: That's with 185/65/15 tires, which is about 24.5".

 

So its possible?
