Spoon throttle body?

I see that A&J Racing now has a Spoon Venturi Throttle Body for the GE on their website. Is anyone familiar with this?

If a K&N Typhoon can be shown to be good for 4hp, I have to believe this could be worth the money.

It would be even cheaper to just bore out the stock TB- just go one or two mm bigger, and adjust the butterfly- $125 is average, for the same gains- Mark W.

Bigger TB is not worth it unless you have measured a pressure drop across the throttle body.

Go too big and you will actually lose torque from the drop in charge face velocity.

If you are moving a sh*t ton more air, like 25lbs/min then maybe.

But no way in hell should you pay $800 or even half that for a bigger TB on a stock cam/stock red line Fit.. Boring out the stock one is also going to be a waste of time for the vast majority of folks on this forum. If anything just gasket match and polish.

If it's already smooth, clean and gasket matched with no appreciable pressure drop at WOT, like they come from the factory don't waste your time and money.

For that money there are other bigger gains to be had.

^ wow, that kind of killed the thread... i just noticed that throttle body online and looked it up, just wish there was somebody who actually put it in. More than anything i'm curious as to what it would do..

I've been wondering lately if the CRZ throttle body would fit on our engines. They bolt the same. The only difference is the directions of the smog fittings, but it doesn't seem like enough to really cause a problem. Even the bolts are the same part number. If it's about 5mm bigger it might be more worth the while than the Spoon one since it's a Honda OE part (no warranty issues!) and costs 500 something on Bernardi.

Spoon TB's are machined starting from the outer-most edge and taper back to the original diameter at the intake manifold so you don't lose velocity. They also use a thinner brass plate and flat screws to mount them. Although alone it's only good for a couple HP in the mid to top end of the power band, you won't sacrafice any bottom end power.

Has anyone bought this? The price dropped to about $550. I'm running 12psi of boost with Weapon-R Manifold, and I'm trying to maximize my mid-range power.

What's the bore size and outer diameter?

It is the only aftermarket DBW throttle I have ever seen for the Fit, as it is to my understanding that the SPOON GD tb is a cable tb...

This is an old thread. It has good info if you read.

You do not need a bigass throttlebody. Hell my Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 4 liter inline 6 and that bitch only has a 50mm throttlebody.

Rule of thumb, no need for a throttlebody unless you are loosing significant power after only a few thousand rpms.

MY opinion, edge your current throttlebody so air flows smoother into it.

Instead of that fat lip of the edge, knife it nice and sharp!

Isn't this a Venturi throttle body? Might help midrange with an increase in velocity but I have no data to back that up. Might be worth a try if you have the budget for it. Especially if your running a bigger cam.

Edit: because turbo

Korean said the Spoon TB is machined in a "tapered" pattern from front to back. I thought that would solve the charge velocity issue that a straight 56mm one would create... I may be mistaken.

The TB is expensive as hell, but a turbo is pretty much the biggest upgrade (besides a k-swap) that can be done to our GD3's. Since that's done, right now I'm trying to gain as much as I can to hit that 300PS mark (Still need 80PS). Starting with tb/cams, head/valvetrain upgrade, and finally piston/rods to run about 14-16PSI safely.

Anyways, that won't be any time soon, but little by little I'm planning on reaching that mark. Christmas is approaching and kids are asking for 3DS and PS4's ;_;

Pistons, rods, bearings and some headstuds are all you need. Then turn up the boost till you hit 300, provided you have enough turbo.
