So, I got bored of my DIY Intake... (Pics inside.)

I got tired of seeing my filter covered in pollen. And Lyon posted something about how the area behind the headlight was one of the coolest places of the engine bay. Sooo... I figured it was time to just yank everything out and start with a new filter and rework it.
After yanking the battery and working the old filter out (Plus taking out the amount of tubing that ran under the headlight down beside the radiator)...

I was left with this. I read something about Blackanddecker mentioning the preservation of a velocity stack and then did some research and realized I didn't have one. (It interested me, because I always felt like I had a strong mid-range but my car really lacked throttle response.) I ordered an aluminum one from eBay that couples to 2" couplers (For those of you that want one too), and slipped it inside a 3" to 2" boot.

That's also an adapter that Spectre sells with their filters to adapt to different sizes. I slipped that in there with a collar to be sure it's round. I slipped the boot inside the filter.

I attached this to the MAF tubing, and it slide right on and clamped in place.
I moved the CAI tubing to take in air behind the headlight, in the supposed "cold spot" Lyon[Nightroad] mentioned:

The filter end slipped into the funnel in the front of filter, and then when it was all put together, it looked like this:

With the battery back in:

I removed my old DIY heatshield because it was really thin sheetmetal, poorly put together, and didn't properly seal against the top of the engine bay. I am currently putting one together of 20-gauge steel, and have some DEI Heatshield tape on order with edge trim.

Not expecting crazy gains, but hopefully some better MPG's...
I've got one panel for the heatshield cut, but then our band saw had a bearing or two go out so the blade hangs up every time we try to make a cut.
And I'm too aware of what happens when you try to make a precise cut with a hacksaw on sheet metal.
I got the one panel cut coated with DEI Heat Tape, so Until the band saw is fixed, that's on hold.
Maybe if I have enough of the tape left over, I could play with coating the intake manifold runners with them too.
