theres a hood scoop under the hood which redirects air to the intake, having it positioned horizontally parallel to the intake box would allow the GE to suck more air.

the oem design is optimal since the filter is positioned perpendicular to the intake. having so allows air and dirt to fall on the filter instead of it being forced unto it.
