diy grille mod

Hey guys
I figured i'd share how i went about doing this. i like doing little one-off things, and i know this might have more people doing this, but i think it looks pretty nice, so here it is.

You're the only person responsible for your car. don't blame fitfreak or myself if you mess something up, aka, mod at your own risk.

step 1: remove your grille (i didn't photograph this)
simply pull all the little black clips out, then there are 2 screws in the top corners of the grille that you need to take off, then pull straight forward.

step 2: wash with soap and dawn to remove grease, wax, etc.

step 3: mask everything off.

step 4: use krylon fusion. this chemically bonds to plastic to help avoid chipping.

step 5: lots of light coats. this avoids runs. allow 20 min inbetween coats to dry. i prob did about 5 or 6 coats.

step 6: let dry overnight

step 7: unmask and admire...

here's a shot of the final product on the car!

Nice. It gives me an idea for mine.

I have blue inserts on the rear around my H emblem. They don't make them for the front. I have a can of blue Fusion. A good masking job and I should be able to paint around the H on the front.

You may have started something. Why not give the whole grill a couple coats of primer then do it in Taffy white? Heck do the fogs and lower grill too.

Just doing the upper grill may give visual impression of being lowered as all the black would be down low.

What the heck if we screw up paint it black lol.

krylon doesn't make taffy white #1, but mostly because i like the black accents, it goes with my black roof. as far as the inserts, i say go for the blue, i was gonna go red, but i'm just get the type r badges instead.
wheels are my next big project...keep your eyes open!

nice
If I was gonna do something to the grill I'd add light to it

eg the lights in the old tv show Knight Rider

that IMO would be sweet

You can get any color Honda paint right here, and they sell it in a spray can too.

good link! the only "downfall" is that krylon fusion actually bonds to the plastic, the stuff in the link won't. but if you take your time prepping, it should still hold up.

yes, i want them bad. i've done some searching though and i want to make sure i'm getting the right badges for the GE8

the EP3 (rear) for the front emblem and the DC5 (rear) for the rear emblem? is that right? and has everyone found jdmland.com to be the best price?

I think it looks good.

I've been thinking about doing something like this to mine. Just because I don't like the available Honda Sport Grille and I think the Grill as is? Could be made to look better. I like the understatement of just the subtle addition.

That red on white looks good.
