Side mirror housing replacement on the cheap?

I cracked apart the side mirror housing on the right side mirror backing out of a narrow garage (see pics). The mirror is still fully functional and unharmed- just the plastic on the housing is munched and looks crappy now. I saw entire OEM "style" replacement mirrors for around $50 (like this one: 2009-2010 Honda Fit Side View Mirror - Right (Passenger). 76208TK6305-PFM | Go-Parts). I looked at the various DYI mirror replacement videos and it doesn't look like a big deal to put in a new one. However I'm so cheap I don't really want to even spend $50. Then I saw I can get *just* the black housing part for around $15 (part #4 on this page: MIRROR for 2010 Honda FIT).

The question is- how big of a headache would it be to remove the mirror and then disassemble/re-assemble to get the the new (real OEM) black housing part put back in? (I couldn't find any DIY tutorials related to that...

You have damaged both the black surround and the cover. Look for a used unit. Simple then to replace.

You want to dis-assemble the entire unit? Have fun.
