SPEAKERS: i'd like to install new Speakers... what SIZE (Woofers and Tweeters)?
HI EVERYBODY,
as many of you already know, my 2008 FIT got destroyed in an accident no long ago, so soon i will get a new FIT, possibly an 09.
I was looking at the fact that the Sound System of the New FIT Sport is not as good as the previous, so i was already looking to buy some new Speakers set.
Here is the thing:
I went into the Pioneer web Site and they tell me that the size of the Speakers is 6,75" and the proposed me what follows:
FRONT: Pioneer TS D720C (260-60W)
REAR: Pioneer TS-A1602R (260-60W)
But then, i went in other websites and i saw that most of em they say that the FIT has 6.5" speakers, wereas in the Pioneer web site they say that you can fit the 6.75... what is going on?
I went into other web sites and they say that most new cars support oversized 6.5" (meaning 6.75") but before i buy them, i would like to be sure... do theese 6.75 FIT or will i need some kind of adapter for them?
Also, the Tweeter that they are proposing to me is a 1-1/8" size... would that fit in the hole of the stock Tweeter?
THANK'S FOR ANY INFO
Also, i would like to mount them on my own... is it messy to work on the new FIT to mount speakers or is it pretty easy?
It has been many many years since the last time i worked on car audio systems.

Speakers and Speaker Install Info
First off "A Big Thank You to Caveman" - you made it easy.
I have an '09 Fit Sport (6 speaker system) and here's what I learned - 1. You can use up to a 6.75 inch speaker, 2. the dash speakers are actually a good 1/2inch dome tweeter and 3. the HU has a reasonable amp in it.
Now the good stuff I used Pioneer TS-A series but could have used TS-G due to the HU amp output limitations. TS-G1643R are 6.5inch and will fit nicely into the old speaker housing. I used TS-A1782R 6.75inch which required trimming the old speaker bracket (my wife about freaked when I tore apart the OEM speakers) so the TS-A's would lay flat. I used a large pair of bullnose dikes to cut and nip with - be patient each speaker bracket requires approx 15-30 min to make pretty. I used the #10 machine screws provided with the TS-A's and lifted/backed them with a couple of 1/4inch washers (I suspect alot of the trimming could be reduced using the 6.5inch speakers). Please use Caveman's wiring schematic for correct hookup. And last unless you have a real need - "Leave the Dash Speaker's Alone" - I installed TST110's and had to mod the grill body and then glue in the TST's (careful of the dome tweeter when seating them into the OEM bracket). If you intend to upgrade the HU then I recommend the TS-A1782R's. If you intend to use components systems then this is all out the window and you're on your own. As for the TechnoFreaks and their HU neasaying here's a little electronics lesson - THD is affected by resistance vs Watts ouput. The more wattage out increases the resistance from the speaker thus increasing THD. The HU produces 40wrms per speaker - speaker efficiency is based on 1wrms expressed in Db//mpa. so 1w=Approx 90Db and 10log says 10w will then=+1db above base Db and 100w=+2Db. Thank you.

* Sorry, as a retired sound engineer I don't quite follow... usually THD (total harmonic distortion) is a product of the amp's design and is measured in a way that makes it look (the amp) good. example: using a 1khz sine wave at 1watt = .001% THD. It is IM distortion that causes listeners to respond negatively
Speaker efficiency, usually measured at 1M (3 feet out in front on axis) is not linear. That is 1watt at some frequency, say 1KHZ again, = 90db spl at 1 meter but that is not to say that 2 watts = 92db or 10watts (10 times or 3db log scale more then 1watt) will measure 93 db acoustic output from the loud speaker unless the dynamic tracking of the speaker is very linear. Most speakers cannot support mor3e then 6watts steady state before lighting up like a light bulb.

Help! The nerds have taken over FF!! LOL JFWY guys. How about some laymans terms for all us non-engineer types. Are you saying that the stock HU makes good use of the stock speakers within their limits? or did I miss your point?
Good questions: the silence I read regarding the "what a great improvement in sound quality, boy am I ever glad i spent the money" and other subjective comments seem to be missing... how about it?
Has the law of diminishing returns set in early and maybe the sound improvement exercise is not worth the effort.?My daughter's old ipod has some tracks which sound great thru the AUX input on my 4 spkr. OEM system.
I have asked classical musicians about their endless ability to listen to crap sound systems with complete happiness and they all said their minds make up what is missing! Is that why my marriage is lasting so well...?? Maybe an audio reflash for our minds is the way to go??
I just want (please) a definitive word on: if the wiring is in there somewhere and if not what is the way to go? My Honda parts guy could only find the tweeters at $80 a side and no wiring harness....

Pioneer TS-A1683R speakers
It was recommended today that I have installed Pioneer TS-A1683R 4 way speakers in the doors and see how happy I am with that... minimum cash outlay taxed and watch the installer for $170 loonies. I am not a big fan of lots of crossovers due to high probability for phase distortions but will try a set in the FRONT ONLY (and leave the back door speakers stock). If the installer has kittens I may consider replacing all four but will definite leave the dash tweeter sockets 'grill only' for now. My SO has sensitive ears and I do not need her complaining about the 'sizzle' coming off my Ipod's digital tracks.
I will report back to myself right here!

Thanks, everyone, for this helpful thread. If those of you who have replaced components on the stock ‘09 Sport system would let us know how happy you are with the results it would be very much appreciated.
For my part, I’ll take the above advice and leave the tweeters in place, but I’m curious as to which–the HU or the door speakers–is the greater culprit behind the somewhat disappointing sound quality I find in the stock system. The problem is hard to describe–basically, I find that I can turn the volume up until my ears hurt and I still can’t really hear the music, if that makes any sense. It’s not greater bass that I’m looking for, just better timbre and a more even frequency response.
Searching through the various threads on the subject there seems to be a difference of opinion on the question of which is to blame, which perhaps means that both the HU and the door speakers are, and so will have to be replaced eventually. But as I also have issues with the user interface on the HU I’ll probably begin by replacing that, and then go after the speakers if I’m still not satisfied.
As soon as the weather warms up enough so that I’m less at risk of snapping brittle plastic parts I’ll probably order the Alpine CDA-105 from Crutchfield and try installing that. I’ll of course post my own thoughts then.
