English DIY maplight in base GE

WARNING
FITFREAK.NET NOR I ARE IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE TO DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR CAR, even if it was a mistake while you're trying to install maplights...

This was my method of installing a maplight into my base model GE8. There are other possible ways to wire/install such as the Thai DIY I based this install on, which can be found here:
D.I.Y ä¿ÊèͧἹ·Õè¡Ñ¹ ÊÓËÃѺÃØè¹ s ¡Ñº v

Items needed to install Honda OEM Maplight
34253-671-003 - Light bulb (order 2 of these)
34405-SDA-305 - Right plastic lens
34406-SDA-305 - Left plastic lens
34404-SNA-A01ZD - Map light base
90148-S6A-013 - Ground/Mounting bolt (order 2 of these)
16 gauge wire
heat shrink
soldering iron/solder
14-16 gauge quick wiretap
A Straightened out Hanger w/masking tape (I'll explain)

This is the order I did things in, feel free to do things differently according to how you want to do it.

1. Disconnect Battery so no power is in the system. This is just a safety step, if you feel comfortable doing it with the battery connected, go for it, but that's on you.
(sorry no pic for this... pretty straight forward, just remember to reconnect and input the code in the radio after you finish)

2. Remove Dome light from its mounting points.

3. At the Maplight location, mark the points where the bolts would be going in, and slowly cut outwards till the Maplight base fits in perfectly and bolt holes line up with the mounting holes.
(Take your time while doing the cutting, i kept cutting then measuring over and over again, just so it will fit in perfectly)

4. Carefully splice and solder one end of the wire to the inner male harness connector, Then cover with shrink wrap, I shrunk it away from the maplight base as much as i could then slid it down and shrunk it a bit more.
(i could not find a small enough female end that fit into that small space, so i ended up having to solder)

5. Use the Hanger wire to pull wire from the dome light hole to the maplight hole/vice versa.

6. Use a quick wiretap to splice into the power of the dome light. (the pink wire)

7. Mount maplight with two mounting/ground bolts and reconnect battery/input code.
(no pics, pretty straight forward as well)

8. Check if they work!

9. Install domelight/ put in covers and you're DONE!!

Here's a pic of the maplight after install, looks like honda installed it! remember to take your time cutting the headliner.

Thank you. We do not get map lights on our Sports here in Canada.

A couple of questions. Soldering wire in dome light. Is there only that one male connector in there that you solder to? Waht are the others for?

You used Fit parts. Are there others out there that may work? I would think might be a bit cheaper to get a complete one off Epay. I guess then it would be just a matter of finding the correct connector inside.

Thanks again. I will try it. I like the challenge of messing with wiring to see if I can get something to work without blowing a fuse.

the map light def helps finding things at night
as for the soldering, yes, that is the only one i soldered, i was skeptical about just soldering one because as i followed the circuit i thought it only went to one of the lights..
from what i saw in terms of the male connectors, it was left = left light, middle = ground, right = right light....
but since that thai DIY only did that one i thought i might give it a try... and it worked! so.. no need to solder the rest... unless you dont have a mounting point which acts as the ground... then i'd guess the middle male connector would need to be soldered/connected to a grounding point.

oh and from what other maplight/homelink DIYs i've seen, a lot of them dont even mount it, the just cut it so it fits JUST right so its slightly squeezed into the hole. so that could be an option with a different maplight from ebay or something

Oh and I used the box that parts got shipped on as my template. I traced the outline of the map light base on the cardboard and made a template out of it. Next I carefully did some cuts of the bolt approximate locations. Used the map base light with my template, aligned the bolt holes one again, took out the map light base, leaving the template only, and outlined it with a marker. Started cutting, checking carefully each time I didn't go over. Did a few minor cuts, and it fit perfectly. Again, thanks for the DIY!

excellent DIY post, thanks.
do all FIT got those 2 mounting holes hidden in the Maplight location?
I am afraid to cut the slot and no mounting holes.....
I am in Canada and I assume all North America model the same, right?

Canadian?

I'm in Sask. and I completed the map light DIY myself using these instructions. Not to worry, even the Canadian models have the mounding screw holes in the roof. THe only other sudgestion I have is to run 2 wires in stead of one. Both the Blue and the Pink because then you have both the function of the individual lights, and they also come on when the doors are opened or the keyless entry is activated.
It works in Canada!
