Yup another box

Well I changed my system a bit, sold my JBL amp got a Sundown SAZ1500D and I have another SA12 due to arrive tomorrow, so I had to build another box. I am out of black carpet so I will have to wait to do that step, anyway here are the pics. In case you are wondering, 4cuft net after all displacement, tuning around 42Hz but aero's react differently so the higher tuning isn't an issue and it should move a LOT of air.

Initial design.

Just awaiting the arrival of my second SA12 now, to put it to use!

Well got her in and all I can say is WoW! I went from a 134 to a 144.2 by just simply changing from the JBL amp to the Sundown SAZ1500D and adding a second 12.

Here are a couple vids, you can see all my vids on my channel in the uploads section.

For pure spl probably, however I am not going that route. Did that in my CRX and this is more of a ground pounding fun install. I like it loud and low, and this is just about perfect.

Loud? Yes, low? tuned to 42 hz, I don't see how. You're presumably using a subsonic filter @ tuning frequency otherwise your ports unload and it's like you're running free-air.

I used to be a basshead too lol. You signed up at caraudio.com presumably otherwise you wouldn't know about Sundown. Nice craftsmanship by the way, looks like you got the right tools.

How can you not see it's tuned at 42Hz? It's a 4cuft net after all displacement with 3 4" aero ports 12" in length. Basic flange port math show's it's tuned at 42.5Hz so yes it's not exactly 42Hz, but hardly any box is exactly tuned at what people calculate due to human error. No subsonic filter, it's not necessary with my setup imo. SAZ1500D at 1ohm is putting out max 1700watts since they are underrated amps. And yes I do unload em around 35Hz but with transfer function and the loading done in the car it's plays below the actual tuning just fine. The SA subs can take plenty of abuse with the power I am using and not even break a sweat. Yes I am on caraudio.com but I do not post there but I am active on SSA sundown forum and a few others.

No--I wasn't arguing the tuning frequency... I'm just saying 42 is a bit high for daily driving. Didn't mean to offend, sorry. Sure they will play a bit below tuning but you need to be careful with them since they have no acoustic suspension below tuning so you're running them IB at that point essentially and mechanical power handling is like 1/10th of what it is at/above tuning frequency.

Just trying to help you avoid tearing spiders/surrounds when you play some lil john unless you don't mind giving them a recone, in which case my point is moot.

Naw I understand about unloading them, but if you have never seen the SA tests jacob does freeair you should take a look, these are seeing probably around rated power nothing too extreme over it so the unloading that rarely happens isn't really a concern.
