Help diagnose my Ticking please? (with videos)
Hi and thank you for clicking I just got my first fit sport absolutely love it but... it’s ticking and I need it to last so I’ll give all the details I can to help and these 3 videos below any help is appreciated greatly (sorry for all the info just want you to have it all before making a diagnosis)
2009 Honda Fit sport 1.5l ivtec A/T 112k miles
oil clean/trans fluid clean
no leaks no smoking
quiet ticking at idle gets louder under load till about 3200rpm then starts to quiet down after 3200rpm+
when a/c is on idle acts like it hiccups dropping about 200-300rpm the quickly jumping back up to normal when ac is off very rarely it will drop 100-200rpm barley noticeable (this only happens at a red light in drive.)
ran a fuel system cleaner and an octane booster not helpful added some hyperlube to the oil didn’t change anything.
im guessing from all my research it’s between valve adjustment, plugs and packs or rod bearings... idek at this point just super stressed as I can’t do the valves myself and it’s super expensive for all of this. Thanks again here’s the vids.
Octane booster and a cold night.
Under hood clip
on an avarage day around 70f outside.

I can’t watch your videos atm but ..
1) the GE engines do have some valve noise even new. It may be normal. Depends how severe it is.
2) The small engine means that the AC load does cause rpms to change. That is totally normal
3) If just sitting idle with no AC andTHEN your rpms fall randomly, that’s a misfire potentially
4) Remove your coils and make sure your plugs are not finger loose. Don’t loosen them — tighten gently and if they don’t move, they’re tight enough. There are torque specs but that’s my layman’s terms assuming you lack a torque wrench. Coils bottoms should be black/grey and not brown with a strong burn smell. You can do that with hand tools and some crazy wrist action to reach them. Good preventative measure.
plenty of people report better engine after fixing valve clearance; but I’m still trying to figure out when I can commit to having our car out of service an extended period.

It isn't going to be any sort of bearing, it wouldn't be rhythmic like that. I just did the valve lash adjustment on mine, this is a pretty similar sound they make when your gaps are out of spec. I originally got mine wrong and got the gaps too large, this was the noise mine made. Opened it back up and corrected what I got wrong and now it's much quieter. I can still kinda hear it at idle but it's always been kind of a noisy engine.
Im going to guess spark plugs, or valves.
There's definitely some truth to "these are noisy engines".
Is this the same run of oil that got the injector cleaner? Not entirely certain, but I think flushing the oil after introducing the cleaner is the safe way to go.

Shop by me says 300 to do valves and plugs minus part cost so I’ll pull the trigger on both when taxes hit thank you all so far for your opinions I really hope it has good bearings after I get it done I’ll do an update video for others wondering what tick is “normal”
Hey again Ticking, might need to change that name!
Sounds like you're on a tight budget for the car, which is relatable, but I can assure you that you can still do the services and keep the car in good shape if car work is a point of interest. I can refer some specialty tools to you via amazon links (though none besides a torque wrench, feeler gauge n such are needed for a valve adjustment). The shop service manual for this car was made by Bishko and runs 45 bucks for the disk on ebay, it's hands down the best manual I've worked with to date and I'd gladly pay a hundred for it.
Building a toolbox isn't cheap.. I've always sourced finances that woulda otherwise gone to a shop, sometimes spending just as much, but walked away with the ability to do the intended job and several others as a result. It's not for everyone, but if it interests you this car also boasts having one of the best communities to learn from. Because of all that, I think working on this car is rather enjoyable.
If you need something, give a shout out. I'll head out to the garage and tell you what I used and where I bought it from, how much, and try to list other options if possible.
Also where to source parts from (though admittedly its almost strictly rockauto, lubes coming from summitracing, amazon, and honda). The golden generation had fun and freedom, but we have mind boggling access to a world of knowledge. It's a great time to be alive.
