Door locks starting to "grind"
Door locks starting to "grind"
Hi all,
When locking the car, I notice a "grinding" sound and wonder if the automatic door locks are on their way out or if greasing them would save them? Anyone have a similar situation? And is getting to the door locks, to grease or replace, a big job? (This is on a 2010 Fit Sport with 124K) Thanks for your experience.

I'd like an image of the lock actuator in question and of the strike bar thing (what the lock affixes itself to.) my first idea would be to ensure that those surfaces are free of dirt and corrosion. For servicing, lock actuators arent too hard but you do have to pull the interior door panel (havent done it on this car but do have the service manual if desired). I'd be tempted to wipe em off, maybe go over the strike with a 3m very fine scuffpad if corroded, then disconnect the battery and blast the lock with contact cleaner.. follow with lube. Anyone else got input?

My rear hatch locking mechanism was binding about a year ago or so. Took the white plastic box out of the hatch, popped it open and hit the screw gear with white lithium grease and shot the electric motor clean with electric cleaner until the runoff was clear. It's just starting to make noise again, but a different sort of noise.
Door lock grind
I had this problem with the right rear door actuator on my '09 Fit a few years back. Tried lubing the mechanism without success. Be careful when removing the giant Phillips screws holding the lock actuator in the door. DO NOT use an impact driver to remove them!!!! The door sheet metal is very thin and you will bend it, then your door won't shut properly!!!! Just get a new actuator mechanism. Here's a video clip of what mine sounded like, happens as soon as you start the car and put it in Drive and the doors lock. VERY annoying!
