Auto transmission not shifting and noisy 2011

Auto transmission car stuck in parking lot. Not shifting completely into gear and a bit noisy sound on 2011 Fit Sport with about 75k miles. My brother had a work emergency so only had 2 minutest to quickly look at this. He tried shifting the interior transmission selection lever to the extremes a few times. Opening the hood he didn't see the shift cable linkage in immediate site. There are no warning lights on the dash.

I am thinking this is a dislodged or broken transmission linkage. They don't use the emergency brake on hills and I have seen that kill cable bushings. AAA towing to local friend's garage.

Did the axle have rust? Glad it was not a transmission issue.

Not sure but it was driven in salty winters. I'll ask.

Really!! I'm pretty sure the stock axels are fancy vs. replacement parts cuz they run 700 bucks a piece from the dealer vs. 40 for aftermarket. I'm. pretty shocked!

Mechanic's bill was $340 including parts, labor and taxes. Car was towed yesterday evening and he finished it before lunch today.

Good god I just noticed who you are! I'm glad everything's alright and that the repair was reasonable!
Do let us know if the new axel seems... unforged. wobbles out of the transmission, causes the wheel to spin sideways as a result of its not costing 700 bucks. Glad you and yours are safe.

Thanks @Pyts

Axle broke in a parking lot. Car was just started and moved say 50 feet to a stop sign. Then car stopped working.

In another stroke of good luck, an off-duty police officer (neighbor and friend) was there and volunteered to help the traffic along and push the car to a safer place for towing. Other than a log-jam of cars, this was an uneventful and safe axle failure.
