2011 Fit Sport, VSA standard...and 6MT!

I highly doubt 6MT. The FIT's torque-less L15 really doesn't have the oomph to handle a 6MT. Highway drivers would be downshifting 2 gears every time a larger hill came up, and downshifting 1 gear if a gust of wind came in the opposite direction.
Plus a 6MT wouldn't come until a MMC which wouldn't be until at least MY 2012. Honda wouldn't just throw in a new Transmission because they felt like it, especially when there is nothing wrong with the current one. (and there's no competition reason to do so).
Here's what's in store for 2011 for all of the Honda Lineup (for the US Likely the NA market overall)

If Honda chooses to do anything major, it'll be during a MMC or FMC, not as a one-off.

I don't doubt they will come with the 6MT since the RS is definitely coming with one here. Considering the Sport is essentially a RS, and the Fit sent to the US is coming from Japan, the market there will probably see the 6MT.
I'm very interested in it. Though I do have some concerns as SB has pointed out, the gearing is not really bad in the CR-Z 6MT, it is equivalent to the current RS here, except first and the final drive are different, everything else is the same. I put the 1st and final drive into a gear calculator and I was happy with the results even staying with a 5MT. Just not sure how much the acceleration will decline with the 4.1 fd. Shouldn't be too bad with the 1st gear from the CR-Z as well and definitely the uptake is that you land in VTEC at each gear change.

Why do some people here keep thinking the CRZ is this torque monster because of the electric motor? It has a peak of 122 lb-ft, vs 105 for the Fit, and yet the 2 CRZs (6MT and CVT) I drove were less responsive, i.e. less torquey than my 5MT Fit.

555sexydrive is right, based on the info here:
Temple of VTEC Rumors and News - JDM Honda Fit MMC Details
Scans of the JDM brochure show a 6speed manual, at least on the RS (Sport here in the US)...my sister lives in Japan, I told her to head over to the local Honda dealer and grab me one of those brochures, I want one!
Most likely the changes won't show up here until the 2012 model year..
And since we've mentioned the CRZ, I drove one yesterday, and I agree with CrystalFiveMT about the way it drives - I had it in Sport mode (it was an automatic, to be fair) and it accelerated and handled no better than my FIT - I was NOT impressed. Nice looking car, but I wouldn't even consider it as a second fun weekend type car, I'd sooner find an old CRX or Prelude.
Just my 2 cents worth!

Yes. Though I tried all modes, I drove the CRZ most of the time in Sport. The Fit Sport handles better with less body and wiggly motions, with quicker response. What the CRZ does better is ride quality, which is why the firmer Fit handles better.
I just came back from a 2 hour canyon run and boy howdy is this Fit FUN!! Great balanced chassis, great steering, and thankfully I hardly used the brakes. All the while I was getting over 40 mpg. It's 90-95% the feel and fun of my Mugen RSX Type-S. In fact, there were many moments where I felt I was in my RSX.

I'd still like to see a 6sp...even if all it was good for was to drop the highway revs down about 400rpm at 70mph.
As I see it, when I'm on the highway, I'm sitting comfortably cruising along...not passing. The high revs don't seem to be doing me much of anything except making a bunch of noise (not THAT bad, but hey...). And it would seem that the highway mileage would go up a slight bit as well.

crz does not have the same engine as the fit. plus the assist motor is between the block and trans so it would be totally custom. might as well just do a k swap for the cost it would be to put the 6mt in.

Well the new models roll out in a little over 2 weeks supposedly. I have a brochure being sent to me by Honda, stopped at a dealer yesterday before going out for a drive and they do not have the actual brochures yet either. What they did have just showed the models being released without any real specifications. Indeed the RS is coming with a 6MT, but unless more information is leaked between now and the time the brochures become available, not sure if it is using the same gear ratios or not. As it is right now, the CR-Z at least here uses the exact same ratios from 2nd through 5th as the RS Fit, the final drive is a 4.11 versus a 4.29 and first is a 3.14 versus a 3.46, so an even tighter ratio. Through a gear calculator, I really want the first and fd from the CR-Z, but will look into the whole 6MT when it is available. The 5th gear here is not as much an economy gear here as it is there, but that is about leveled out because the 5MT there has a 4.62 final drive.
