Are there any UPGRADE Fit side mirrors? (stock ones look 'distorted' and 'unnatural')
So, I'm the second owner of a 2012 Fit base. I'm coming from a 2007 Corolla (still have the car) where the side mirror looks very natural, there is no distortion. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or comments about this. I don't want to buy an aftermarket unit only to find out it's the same thing.
First, a little introduction about myself: I've been interested in the Honda Fit since 2016 or so but couldn't justify buying it since I already have a 2007 Corolla which has proven to be absolutely rock solid reliable but often not enjoyable to drive (usually.) I upgraded the tires, the wheels, and installed a Bilstein B8 kit on the Corolla but ultimately I was still not satisfied. So, I recently found a 2012 Base model with 136K on it, but with a very nice CarFax (many service records) and indications that most of the mileage would be highway.
its hard to describe, but they are distorted in random parts of the mirror, sort of like non oem windshields are not perfectly clear. im pretty sure the cold tweaks them out, because they will look slightly warpy in the morning, then normal later in the day after the sun warms the car. thought it was just my car or my eyes, or i was goin crazy.
Be careful to avoid mirrors for Asian or European versions of the car. Since folks elsewhere drive on the right side of the vehicle, the magnification (or whatever you'd call it) of the mirrors is swapped. "objects in mirror are closer than they appear"

Yeah, I was willing to lose $25 to test something if it didn't work. Not so much on something over $100.

Hey folks, I wanted to offer an update for those who are still even vaguely interested or curious.. I didn't bother posting the pics since the pics don't really show the effect---one would really need to see it in motion to understand the funhouse-mirror-lite effect going on here.
In any case, the problem has been solved: new aftermarket mirrors.
I bought a single Burco passenger side mirror (the cheapest on Amazon, cheaper than driver's side) to see if these mirrors also feature the distortion effect and the answer is: NO!!! I got lucky on the first try!!!
That's right, these cheap aftermarket mirrors are better than Honda factory OEM's.
Apparently, I am the only person bothered by this because my Google search found almost no complaints. Yes, I posted on the Honda Fit forum too and just one user said he experienced the same thing. It's really not just my car, it's EVERY Honda Fit of this generation, but people are fine with it apparently.
I'm going to go ahead and purchase the driver's side now. While I'm at it, I might buy a Dorman unit as well, just because I'm curious!
YIPPEEE!!!!!!! This "dumb" thing could've been a deal breaker for me.
When jumping out of my other cars and into the Fit, I always thought the driver side mirror was somehow "distorted," especially when there's something approaching.
I got those cheap-os in. Pretty quick install, just pop in and pop out since I don't have heated mirrors. They're wide angle, so everything you see is a little smaller, so you'll have to adjust to that, but you definitely see more. I suspect they cut both of these mirrors out of the same glass, so you don't have the LHD/RHD bias. A friend of mine had Spoon mirrors on his old Civic which were set up for a RHD car, and they were basically useless, but hey, JDM, right? These are tinted blue for supposed better night time driving, and they're claimed to be hydrophobic, neither of which I've tested yet. I like that I can see in my blind spots (Which is what they're for) as well as behind me since my rearview is pointed at a baby seat these days. Neither of the new mirrors are turned all the way out like the OEM ones were.
I love the tint idea and the wide angle (at times I've found myself folding in the driver's side mirror when on the freeway due to some vehicles' possession of exceedingly bright headlights), but would be worried about someone else driving the car and mistakenly approximating the distance of other vehicles incorrectly.
I'd love to hear an update and if you feel that the difference is significant, but i think i'll be unable to follow in your footsteps due to my at times sharing the Fit.
Here's the back of OEM driver side mirror, and it's the same thing on the passenger side. Basically the same with the aliexpress cheap-os.
I don't know the technical term for these things, so this is my best description.
The green arrows are these plastic hooks at the top of the mirror and hook into another plastic piece inside the mirror housing.
The red arrows are clips that a piece of plastic in the housing pops into.
The blue circle is adhesive backing similar to 3M tape. It's that whole area that is exposed. Only the driver side really stuck to anything in there, so it was slightly more difficult to pop out than the passenger side.
I'm sure you could be more delicate with some sort of trim tool, but I slid my hand behind the mirror from the bottom of the mirror and just pulled the mirror out from the bottom and then slid the top hooks down and out. Just a good pull popped them both out. Maybe a little harder than you're comfortable doing to a piece of glass on your car, but you just need to get those bottom two clips out.

Yeah, I get that. Kind of helpful that one can set the mirrors to still look in the blindspot, but also see the side/back of the car.
So, the wide angle mirrors take a bit to get used to because everything is a little smaller in the mirrors, but overall I like them. As for the "hydrophobic" water does seem to roll off them them a bit easier, but not much more than a proper glass treatment.
