I blew the manual trans in my 2010, and I’m about to source a junkyard replacement. In my searching I noticed that the 6mt seems to line up with the 5mt, so I was contemplating an upgrade.

main reason I would think it wouldn’t fit is a difference in axles, but I can’t find any 3rd gen axles online anywhere to compare.

any ideas?

 

I don't wanna be that guy, but I recall reading that GK (3rd gen) owners found the sixth gear to be pretty much right where 5th gear is on the GE.

 

​​​​​​You're right, the final drive between the two cars in top gear is identical.

The engine is different between the two generations, so the transmission doesn't swap. You could try importing a 6mt from Japan for the second gen, but that costs a fortune.

 

Yeah I’m probably the outlier where I actually was looking for closer gears instead of a higher too end 😂 I don’t drive in the highway, my daily commute is windy New England roads

But yeah I don’t think I’m gonna bother
