USB port ripped out one too many times
Hi everyone 👋
I found this forum cause I can't seem to find the answer to my question. My friend is an owner of an '09 Honda Fit and whenever I get into his passenger seat I tend to yank out his iPhone cord the USB car port. And now the USB car port won't charge his phone or play music. He is understandably upset, and I was wondering if anyone had to replace this and how much it might cost. Alternatively if anyone knew the part so maybe I could buy it before I take it to a mechanic/stereo specialist.

If the usb port/cable no longer charges, you will have to replace it. If you know how to solder it's pretty easy. Just buy a USB extension cable from eBay. Then cut off the faulty end in the glovebox, pop out the plastic plate that holds the cable in place (to give you enough room to work)... then pull the factory cable from the plate. Then feed the new USB extension cable through the same plate/hole (after cutting off the end you don't need), and proceed the connect/solder/heat shrink each of the wires to the factory USB cable. If you google/youtube search how to solder on a new usb cable, there are plenty of images and videos.
One example:
Btw, if you need more room to work, just open the lower glove box (like you would when replacing the cabin filter), and then pull both USB cables down there. I'll be doing the same thing to my car so I can take advantage of my new double din radio with dual USB inputs.
