Sway bar end link replacement needed?
Sway bar end link replacement needed?
Went to the stealership to confirm an electrical problem and of course the vultures try to make a list of services or repairs to drum up an extra $1500 on a $3000 estimate.
Anyway 2009 Sport 90K miles and the sway bar end link boots are torn. Opinions if replacement is really needed? If so I will get the $40 part and spend 30 mins replacing them, if not needed I'd rather pass. Thanks,

You can check the links for play by hand to determine if they're bad, but if the boots are torn they will be bad soon enough if they're not already.
If you're comfortable replacing them yourself go for it and you'll know it's fixed. Problem solved.

Thanks for the good tip. I did go ahead and check the play.....1 side was pretty sloppy the other side not but easy enough to swap them out. Thanks for the reply.
I would assume there are other posts on FitFreak about sway bar links, but I don't know for sure.
Testing them is pretty easy. If the bushings are in good condition there shouldn't be any free play in the sway bar link. When you have the wheel off grab it and see. If the bushings are totally shot you'll be able to wiggle the link around and will probably hear it jiggling around when you're driving. If the boots are torn the bushings will go bad sooner or later, depending on your road conditions.
I'm sure you can get more technical than that, but for most folks that should suffice.

For the price of new links and the time it takes to replace them, if you're unsure, replace them.
Been using the Moog problem solvers on both my Accord and Fit: they are sturdy and cheap on Rock Auto. You can also grease them every year. From my own experience, they last way longer than the OE links.
