Touchup Paint: Recommend a Source

I searched some forum threads under "Touchup Paint." However, I'd like to know the current thinking on a source for paint. One of the older threads linked to a site that offered a "kit" — included paint, base and clear coat , and a few pieces of sandpaper — for $49.99. Is this about the price range I'm looking at?

The Job I Have To Do: Just remove a very small rust spot and cover it over. This will be a b*llsh*t paint repair, not the Sistine Chapel. More worried about the rust than the cosmetics.

Your input is welcome.

Just visit your local Honda dealer. They sell exact color matched touch up paint for your vehicle.

What's your color? My car is black so I just got the glossy black from Motip for literally $5. It's base mixed with clear which makes it muuuch easier to deal with.

I half-assed it a bit but this was a pretty huge stone chip and there were no issues with the paint itself.

@mobby_6kl Thanks, mobby. Your second picture looks good.

I just received a kit from TouchUpDirect. Haven't opened the envelope yet. (It was 85 degrees inside my apartment at 6:30 a.m., and I'm moving slowly in this heatwave.) My color is Honda Alabaster Silver Metallic NH-700M. It is my understanding that this is the color that attracts the most hot babes.

More to follow.

I can say the black doesn't attract anything other than dirt and pollen. Good luck, metallic is a bit more difficult but if it's a small spot and not in a very visible place, you should be good.

Color matching by code to faded paint results in disappointment. My advice is to remove the smallest amount of paint possible, because once it's gone, it's gone. (Green) automotive tape is useful for limiting the amount of material removed, even if the tape itself is merely sacrificial. I got a good match by finding a local supply shop that custom mixes individual cans, but I had to ask around before I knew where they were. Clear coat (in cans) is a different story altogether because in my experience, unintuitively, it doesn't spray like spray paint. Rather, it pools, I would say.

The same place sold a base paint with some kind of rust inhibitor (also available online). The kind I used was blue. I think that'd be the route to go if you have to take it all the way to metal.
