Hybrid question
Hybrid question
Hi all,
Please bare with me i am new to the scene.
I'm interested in buying a jazz year between 2011-2013 and planning on keeping it well over the 100000miles, however looking at the negative side is the hybrid replacement which can be between £1000-3000, can anyone share if they have had this experience or should I be worried?
Kind regards

When considering if a hybrid system these are the monetary factors I would keep in mind before purchase:
- The initial cost of a hybrid versus its' gasoline powered counterpart
- The cost of replacement of repair of the hybrid system
- The cost of replacing regenerative brakes
- How much fuel it will save you over the lifetime of the vehicle
In typical circumstances, if it's not a plug-in hybrid and you're also taking trips greater than 5 miles everyday the amount of money it will save you in fuel over the lifetime of the vehicles is usually far less than the cost of the hybrid system. In my opinion hybrid vehicles are usually not worth it unless your commute is very short and you also have to opportunity to plug in and charge it.

Thank you for your detailed reply 👍
In the USA the Fit hybrids were lease only and once returned I don't think they we available for purchase again, so Honda must not have had the confidence to put them back into circulation. With that being said, you might not find much info on them.

With that said and going from rough memory, the Fit/Jazz Hybrid of that year range is referred as the GP1. It should be powered by the LDA3 (which is shared with the 2nd gen Insight, chassis code ZE2)… Not sure about the IMA side of the vehicle's drivetrain to be clear cut and honest though. Knowing Honda's tendencies with parts interchangeability, I wouldn't be surprised if the system is similar to the ZE2 Insight or the FB4 Civic Hybrid (9th generation Civic).
I haven't seen any issues with the LDA3 first hand with Insight and many of which are deep in the 100k club and some getting ready to cross into 300k mile territory as well. By this age, I'd be looking for oil seals leaking especially at the VTEC spool valve as its not uncommon for them to heat cycle out and start to be come brittle (and plastic like). An interesting note I'd like to add is these engines are also dual spark plug per cylinder engines (look up Honda i-DSI if you're curious) so don't be surprised when you hear about needing 8 NGK or Denso spark plugs during that service.
Battery life and service is a variable to do research on as well as varies if the packs are made of Nickle or Lithium. A gentleman by the name of Peter Perkins would be one to look up if you want to deep dive Honda's hybrid systems and get a better grasp of what you're getting into for potential future vehicle purchase. He's been heavily involved with the first gen Insight community along with Civic and CR-Z communities as well educating owners, servicing battery packs and modifying the IMA system as well.
