Is it a Hybrid?
Is it a Hybrid?
I get that question all the time. Looks like it might be soon.

I asked a dealership in Pittsburgh about this. the conversation went a bit like this:
ME: "I've read some articles stating that it's very possible Honda might release the Fit in 2008 with a hybrid option, since the wheelbase and all are the same as the Insight, and the Insight is a rather impractical and poor-selling model. Do you know anything about this?"
SALESMAN: "We have 2 hybrid models available right now."
The guy totally missed my point, but whatever.
I think it'd be great to have a hybrid fit. Currently, there is no Hybrid that's affordable, practical, great on gas (not just good), AND stylish right now. I think a hybrid Fit would be able to incorporate all of those.

This article is 2 months old and in light of new information, I don't believe there will be a Fit hybrid at all

New Dedicated Hybrid Vehicle:
* Honda is now developing a new dedicated hybrid vehicle suitable for family use in major automobile markets in the world. With this new dedicated hybrid vehicle Honda will achieve further advancement of fuel efficient technologies and a major cost reduction, which will enable Honda to offer this vehicle in 2009 at a price level lower than the Civic Hybrid.
* Production of all-new, more-affordable, dedicated hybrid vehicle, including the hybrid unit, will be produced at Suzuka Factory. The worldwide sales plan is approximately 200,000 units per year that includes projected North American sales volume 100,000 units.
It pretty much states it - newly *dedicated* hybrid vehicle, which pretty much means, closer to Prius, and not Fit/Civic Hybrid

Sounds like the fit hybrid is out of the question according to what crimsona just said, but even if they put an Insight engine in a fit, wouldnt that be like insanely slow and impractical? I thought the reason the insight was 2 seats and so small was because that was all the weight that engine could pull...!? Imagine 5 people and a trunkload of goods being pulled by like 70 ft/lb of torque...that would be hopeless! 1.5L Fits ftw

That article is old. at the time, people were speculating, but later when honda revealed more details, the possiblity of a hybrid fit was gone. they said they'll have two huybrids: a CRV hybrid, and a never seen model only available in hybrid and no gasoline version.
