I, too, am considering pulling the trigger on the 8yr/120K warranty for $890.

The good is roadside assistance and rental reimbursement, the bad (fine print) is catalytic converter is not covered. The one on my '03 Pilot went bad at 79,800 miles, just 200 miles prior to the expiration of the emission warranty, so this caught my eye.

Still, for the money, and the plug could be pulled anytime. They were last in court on this August 28, and a gag order is in place. Whether they win or lose is anybody's guess.

So even if they have to stop selling them, they'll still honor ones already sold correct?

I'm pretty sure. Although I purchased through Bernardi my contract came directly from Hondacare.

Yes. Regardless of what dealer sells you the extended warranty it's covered by Honda.

Hey all, I am recently in the process of purchasing a 2009 MT Sport Fit (Blue) and I did sign for the EW at the dealership for about 1.5K. I feel like I will probably get the EW from online but how foolproof is it? This is my first car and my first time doing any of this (with the help of my parents). How are the companies online able to cover our car? I don't really understand how this system works. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

just buy the warranty from any honda dealer ... all you have to do is search yahoo and you will find at least one or two honda dealers.

much cheaper than buying from the dealer- do not do it

The EW is purchased from Hondacare from a Honda dealership. It's as if you bought floormats from a different Honda dealer than the one you got your car from. After you complete the purchase your relationship will be with Hondacare not the dealership from which you got the EW.

if you are paying $1555... you are dumb... but you are not the only one- typical trap of the F&I Dept...

it appears if you buy the honda warranty here it will cost $605.00

you could buy two warranties and still have $300 bucks

A regular Honda EW is available from a Honda dealer on line, myhondawarranty.com, for as little as $400 or as much as $800 for 120k miles in 8 years in 5 levels of coverage. No matter who the EW is from ALWAYS compare the coverage and check BBB and other customer rating sites to see just how well they pay for claims. See Consumer Reports articles couple of months ago or so.
The EW system with Honda is handled by the repairing dealer from your warranty. Others are handled by email or phone with pre-repair approvals and can be very very messy and difficult to get payments. Payments are made directly to the repairing dealer and many repair shops refuse to repair cars under extended warranties they have no experience with.
If you signed for a EW at your dealer why are you looking online? You think they'll give your money back?
And thanks to KenBT who put the myhondawarranty plans on a link for everybody.

Untrue. Many dealers sell EW's from other companies, not just Honda.
Demand Honda; better yet go online to myhondawarranty.com. and save the dealer 'profit'.

Ok, it's safe to say that I got a deal. I talked to my sales guy and told him that I was dropping the EW because I found a better quote online for about 6-7 hundred 6yrs, 100k, 0 deductable. So he had a talk with his boss and we agreed on $770 for the statement above. How'd I do?

I got the Comprehensive "Honda Plus" plan (bumper to bumper) for 5 years/130,000 km for $895. This includes Roadside Assistance for the duration of the plan. Figure this was a good deal as the original price was $1297, the offered it to me for $302 off (sale price) so $995 then the dealer offered another $100 off when I didn't look interested. I did check online and no place (in Canada) could touch that price. Oh and it is $0 deductible as well...

Were you refering to me or the other poster? I think my deal for 5 years/130,000 km bumper-to-bumper coverage, $0 deductible, roadside assistance at $895 is great (ok, very good at least)...

but i can pretty much say...

the dealership will not change the price again...

since they had a mutual agreement on price after he told them he could get lower... if it was me i would say sorry... we can't keep changing prices because you find lower... if you want to negotiate a price on the warranty get all your facts and papers ready...
