this has happened to me so many times at work. I find that the following ppl will not know what a fit is:

1. not in the market for a new car
2. not a car buff
3. only into really expensive cars (40k plus)
4. only into domestics/trucks/suv

Yah pretty much anytime I talked about it before I got one.... they didn't have a clue what it was.

Now everyone knows... and some people are drinking the Fit kool-aid

I haven't had anybody ask if it is like a Civic, but I often get, "Is it a hybrid?" because it has similar styling to the Prius. Not a hybrid, but great fuel economy plus baseline to baseline costs less than half of a Prius... not including dealer markup above MSRP. Further, I can fit a hell of a lot more in this car than one can even dream of in a hybrid.

All around, better deal.

Ultimately, I'm ok with people not knowing what kind of car this is. I think word of mouth will work well for Honda.

On a only slightly related note, my Uncle who works for Toyota said the Matrix has the reclining seats in their 09 version as well. Competition may be heating up...

I'm getting used to being asked all the usual questions. What surprises me is how many more Fits I am beginning to see around me on Houston freeways. Back when I bought mine last November, the dealer had tons of them lined up for almost three rows. I could get any color, any configuration, and have my pick with attractive pricing to boot. Now almost a year later, they only have 2 or 3 on the lot at any given time if you're lucky and they're not sold out.

Really I've only seen the ads run on TV once. Meanwhile how many Escalade and Truck commercials can be rammed down our throats? Car makers usually only advertise the ones they can't move off the lots. That's why you hardly see the Fit rolling on television spots.

Hybrids are wonderful and the future of cars. But right now the technology and support for them mechanically is not quite there. The Fit gets similar MPG to a Hybrid, but is far easier to maintain. And those SMART CARS? They and the Mini Cooper both require premium gas or at least that is what is suggested. The Fit is much cheaper to own. So which one is smarter in today's economy?

So all the "What is that?!?" will soon be "I wish I had one".

Most of the people where I work drive big trucks and SUVs. Many thought my Fit was a hybrid. One guy was asking the other day, when I was waiting on my 09, "how much did you pay for that car" (while smirking). I said it would be around $21,000. I asked him how much he paid for his 2008 Chevy Silverado, extended cab, fully loaded. He proudly said "$33,000, but I got it down to 30,000". I said something about the fact that it might be worth $20,000 as soon as he drove off the lot. He said he didn't care, he had to have his truck.

and your purchase will still be worth $21,000.

I also seen the matrix, it also has some kind of plastic material on the back of the seats instead of the black rug-like material on the fits. Pretty nice feature. Still love the fit though!

OMG!!! I went to the Tag office today ... and the clerk did it... looked a the screen and hesitated....

"A Honda what???"

"uh ...uh Fit?"

"What's a fit?"

"Is it in the parking lot?"

After I caught my breath I said yes and she got out of her chair and looked out the window...asking which one!

She seemed to get quite excited about it when I mentioned the 10 cupholders...

It's surprising how many people don't know what a Fit is.

Had to add to this:

Mentioned to a guy that work with that I had bought a new Honda and that it was a Honda Fit

After getting the look that said he had no idea what a Fit was I pulled out my phone and showed him a pic of what it looked like and told him a couple of cool things like the seats and how it fits my 2 dogs

He then asked how much did it cost me

19 and change out the door (Manual, Sport no Navi), and of course I then added that on my last tank of gas I averaged 38 mpg

He reaction was priceless Big eyes, mouth drop and etc.

He drives a Suburban and a 3/4-ton diesel truck and has to budget $1,000 a month for gas, LOL

Well that was the end of the conversation.
