"meep meep"-B-Gone

My Fiamm El Diablo horns have arrived, and I installed them today. I, too, had experience with them on a street bike, and knew the improvement they would afford.

TKZ12No1 had the instructions straight. Here are some pictures.

Whew!

Got the pictures up. Now a few comments.

I test-fit the horns and brackets to minimize water intrusion and maximize clearance.

I chose the left condensor bracket as a mounting location for the relay.

I used the factory 20A horn/4-way fuse on the rightmost lug of the battery connections. No additional in-line was installed.

The Fit uses an earth-ground, switched hot configuration. The installation diagram is for a switched (horn button) ground. Connect the Fit's purple horn lead to post #86 on the relay, and ground the #85 terminal.

Sounds great!

My costs;
$19.94 Horns, free shipping, ordered with some other Amazon.com stuff
$02.52 Spade terminals
$00.00 Wire bits I had laying about
$12.00 .5L cheap whiskey

Equals;

$241.80

Hmmm... Problem wiht my maht somewerhe!

P.S. Allow time to wash all those nasty bugs from your AC condenser!

Thanks for the pix , CBX. I did my el grandes last weekend, using the same mounting positions as you. I did add a 10A inline fuse at the battery but that is prolly redundant.

What do you reckon those assemblies are in front of the radiator (one of which has the relay mounted to it)? They look like air temp sensors to me..

I thought they might be part of the airbag system, so I chose not to mount the relay there. I didn't know what effect the small vibration of a relay might have, but I certainly don't want to deploy the airbags when I honk my horn!

I'm thinking they're impact sensors. I stayed clear of 'em too, just to be on the safe side. And I also put a fuse in just so I don't have to worry about popping a honda-specific fuse that controls something important, should something go wrong with the horns I put in.

A sound plan.

The manual lists that 20A fuse on the battery as horn/4-way flasher, so I was not worried. Maybe I won't honk while my flashers are on!

I still need to do a current measurement for the Fiamms.

P.S. Love that SSM!

How did you reattach the hood latch cover? I'm thinking a plastic rivet would be best but my rivet tool is in Austin..

Just buy one of those plastic snap-in trim holders if you break the one from the latch cover when taking it out. I'm guessing at least 1/2 the time it will break. Available at auto parts stores for cheap. A rivet is going to be much harder to remove in the future.

Rats! I forgot to use my new horns today!

When I was passing through the "big city" today I was just about squeezed out of one of the two lanes on a ramp, by a tradesman's work pickup truck.

I instinctively nailed the brakes, allowing the driver to continue along in his present state of sensory numbness.

I missed the perfect opportunity to try out my Fiamm "El Grande" horns!

Thanks TKZ12N01 and all the others who wrote on this thread.

I installed the horn last week end and it was a piece of cake to do it.

My new horn work like a charm (a loud one ;o)

Thanks again!

Won't it be nice when at least one of us members can buy a Fit Service Manual from Helm, so we can identify "those assemblies on the front of the radiator" and any other component of the car????

CBX, thanks for the photos and comments!

I made a before and after video of the horns.

Here is a quick video of the new horn install in my Fit.

I used the same horn listed on this thread. It took about an hour to do and was well worth the $25.00.

Check out the video.

great thread guys! big bang for $20 as I had everything else already in the shop

I added a few twists

* gave the Fiamm horn brackets a twist to make them fit closer together so the drivers side one is not so close to the airbag sensor

* put shrink tubing on all the connectors, always a good idea

* kept the stock horn also, on a custom aluminum bracket on the same bolt as the relay (condensor bracket bolt) wired the fiamms into the 100 amp terminal and used an AGM inline fuse holder w/10 amp fuse.

Thanks to TKZ12NO1 for the handy guide! I went the accord horn route so I just needed the beginning...

Thanks to CBX for the great pics! I was confused on the pop'em things as I am used to the door panel kind (just pull)...

You guys made it a painless $15 upgrade (w/ shipping) that took less than 3 songs on my ipod. (I think i spent as much time finding this thread as doing the swap )

Glad it worked out!

That "pop-em" type of panel connector is not obvious in its removal procedure, but several of my motorcycles have had them.
