I think i know why the fuel economy #'s are fudged up

09 Fit Base and Sport MT both get 27/33
09 Fit Base auto gets 28/35 and Sport gets 27/33

Why does the MT get the same MPG in both trims but the Auto loses MPG in the sport? You think it'd be the same since the MT doesn't lose any MPG for Sport. Does the EPA drive using the paddle shifters or something?

Ohhh Canada, this is what its rated up there:

Auto in any trim gets 7.1/5.5 or 33/43
MT in any trim gets 7.2/5.7 or 32/41
I know its a diff system of measurement up there but all trims are rated the same in Canada even tho the LX gets Honda Civic Hybird rims.

Lazy readers start here

Now lets dig deeper. Off fueleconomy.gov it says the Automatic was controlled VIA "CLKUP", or
Computer-Controlled Continuously Variable Lockup which sounds normal.

Now on the Sport, the transmission is being reported as controlled by "
2MODE CLKUP" which means, Multimode, User-Selectable (key word right there)Transmission. n = Number of Gear Range (2 Through 9)

Why would they specify "User-Selectable" The Base is "User-Selectable" when you drop it down past D right?

Also the transmission type for the base is "
Automatic 5-spd" and the sport is "Automatic (S5)"

So i really think the only reason why the Sport gets worse mileage is cause it was tested w/ the driver shifting w/ the paddles.

I don't think the Base has D and S, it just has D. Sport has both. Worse gas mileage is likely do to added weight, rotational mass, and possible the aero.

EDIT: Also, because of tire size, the sports speedo is actually 0.2% slow.

Canadian AT don't have a spare tire, saving the weight.
By the way, you'd get more bang for your buck if we all lose some weight ;-)

Wiggums has the right stuff. MPG depends on gearing, shift points, and weight beyond te engine size.
The Sport auto is heavier and the auto is geared way taller than the manual. Unfortunately, the auto mode shifts at higher rpm than necessary so the city mileage suffers. I get better mpg in S shifting at 3200 than the regular auto shifting at 3800 even tho the engine is off power when shifting into third at 3200 rpm. (Honda should have made auto 3rd 1.3:1 gear instead of 1.067:1) and they would have not had to program the 2-3 shift at 3800 rpm.

The Base has 1-2-3-D right? The ECU corrects for tire size. You can set the tire sizes in the ECU to correct the spedo and the EPA doesn't factor in wind resistance. Also dont forget the MT Sport also has added weight and rotational mass of the sport and doesnt lose MPG.

Yea but the Base model has the same tranny as the Sport so gearing doesn't play a factor at why the Sport Auto gets less MPG than the Base Auto. I dont doubt you get better MPG in sport mode, the paddles would the the only reason why i would buy a Fit, just so i can properly hypermile in an auto

You all seem to be forgetting that the Base Auto weighs more too, not just the Sport Auto.

The MT Base weighs 2489 and MT sport weighs 31 lbs more and same MPG

The Auto Base weighs 2575 and Auto Sport weighs 40 lbs more and gets 1-2 less

So what you guys are telling me is the extra 9 lbs for the Auto Sport causes it to lose 1/2 MPG, lol

Also if the wheels are a factor the Canadian LX would get higher MPG due to light weight rims.
