US model GPS

Can the large GPS unit on the 09 U.S. Fits be purchased
seperately ?
If so , will they install in a Canadian Fit ?

The map & road images are displayed by using a DVD disk which only has data for the US.

That where the Navi get its map data! The Navi may work in canada but you won't have any road information! Just a blip on the screen drawing breadcrumbs.. thats my guess anyways..

anyone tried the navi in canada yet?

Gps

I doubt that it uses a DVD. Most just have a chip in them.

But don't even consider wasting your money on a Honda GPS. Buy a Garmin handheld, and a car holder for it. We have one, and you can purchase a chip which covers all towns in USA and Canada. All on the same tiny chip.

We travel a great deal....not always by car, but we always have our Garmin handy. You can also plug the Garmin into the internet for upgrades.

And the best news....it will be a fraction of the price of the Honda unit.

I did not see Hipshot's post in time.

Yes, we have travelled in Canada a bunch....Toronto and north, and Vancouver and Vancouver island.

As I said, the Garmin hardware and software are outstanding.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 650 that I move from car to car when the need arises. Its maps cover North America.

Electronics

I re-read the post by Hipshot.

Perhaps some Americans are not aware that Canada is more advanced than the USA in many things electronic. Banking is one area...hard to believe, but there is no banking crisis in Canada. Credit cards is another, and GPS devices and software is another.

Also, the BlackBerry comes right out of the Waterloo area of Canada.

So any kind of travel in Canada is going to be with all of the luxuries. There may be more snow, but at least you will know where you are.

BTW, today is Canadian Thanksgiving day. Happy Thanksgiving to all Canucks. I live in New Mexico....but I happen to have dual citizenship.

Please don't misunderstand. I was speaking of the limitations of the honda nave system! Not Canada's !!! Th DVD is limited to the US and Hawaii for whatever legal reason! They do NOT make one for Canada.
