Alarm on sport model

Ok, I finally got my oj Fit yesterday evening. Had my bf drove me home, and parked on the drive way. This morning I woke up at 4am (I have insomnia and the excitement over the new Fit is not helping) realizing that I forgot to take out my garbage, so I got up and took the trash can out of the garage, and decided to move the car into the garage. When I sat inside the car, turned on the headlights and the engine, and all of a sudden the alarm went off and I didn't know what to do to turn it off. It was 4am in the morning! After 2 minutes of frantically pushing every button and levers it finally stopped, but as soon as I turned on the engine it shreaked again, for another 2 full minutes. I finally gave up and decided to drive it into my garage and close the garage doors in an attemp to lower the loud noise. I am sure my neighbors were all grabbing their shot guns in their sleep. What a nightmare!

Just checked the manual on security system on page 193, and it says "
The alarm will also be activated if a
passenger inside the locked vehicle
turns the ignition switch on."

What the hell does that mean? Aren't we supposed to lock the door before we turn on the car? Will the alarm go off everytime we turn on the engine while the door is locked? Am I missing something here? Should I go back and get more sleep? I am totally lost. Help! I don't want a car that shreaks out everytime I turn it on, especially in the middle of the night, even for a few seconds. I can get fined by my nazi homeowner's association if it happens all the time.

Why would you lock the doors before you turn it on? I've never heard that, seriously.

Most people don't lock their car when they are driving or right when they get in their car....at least I dont.

4 full minutes at 4AM and nobody did anything? That seems totally ineffective.

I guess all the false alarms are making people ignore them.

Its more likely someone would have called the cops about the noise if it kept on going off than to report a possible theft.

Although I did have someone call the cops to check on my house after I had left the garage door open all night (forgot about it) and I left it open when I discovered the next morning thinking I was going to go out in the yard but I wasn't out there, so late afternoon, I had cops at my door.

Looks like you locked the car once you got inside. By accident of course.

Seems weird to me that the alarm would function that way if the doors are locked. I was thinking it had something to do with the key, but I dunno.

BTW, you're not alone with the insomnia. I'm there with ya. Go back to sleep.

are you sure that's why the alarm went off?

by "passenger" maybe they mean someone not in the driver's seat.
that's a guess.

otherwise it doesnt make sense... at least not me.... which may not be saying much,

Hmm I do this all the time. In a sketchy part of the neighborhood, I get in the car and lock the doors first, then turn on the ignition. The alarm never goes off.

how would one test their alarm as I've never had it go off?

The 08's do the same thing. I did it by accident once.

If you are sitting in the car and lock the doors, then insert the key and turn it, the alarm will sound. Personally, I think its kinda dumb considering the immobilizer chip is in the key, so the car knows the ignition lock is not being punched.

If you are a person who drives with their doors locked, start the car, then lock the doors.

Based on the fact that its happened to me and the following quote from the manual:

The alarm will also be activated if a
passenger inside the locked vehicle
turns the ignition switch on

I would say it happens

I think the Canadian cars don't have the alarm on it.

I have a habit of locking the car before turning on the ignition. Some cars will lock the car automatically if you don't manually the lock the car. I thought we were supposed to lock the car first and then drive off.

When the manual says "passenger" it means any human beings inside the car. When the alarm went off this morning I was the only one inside, sitting on the driver's seat.

I used to live in New York and car alarms went off all the time on the street and nobody cared. My own Accord had Lojack on and it was stolen TWICE! the second time i never found it.

I think they put this alarm thing in it because it's supposed to be an urban car, but the only way for an alarm to be effective is when the owner is several feet away or something. If you park the car on the next block or two you will never know, as most car alarms sounds just the same and the alarm will NOT prevent you from driving the car away. In New York I often have to walk several blocks to find a parking space.

BTW, does the Fit lock its doors automatically when you start driving? I didn't notice that.

This is what I did this morning

unlock doors using remote, get in, lock the doors using the lock button on door panel, turn on engine. no alarm.

maybe i should use the remote to lock then turn on the engine to see if the alarm goes off.

This may sound like a stupid question, but do you have the sport model?

ok i think i might have found the answer

"The security system automatically sets 15 seconds after you lock the doors, hood, and the tailgate"

I don't think I waited that 15 secs. Will try again later.

I think the Fit Sport does have auto door locks, check that little quick start guide.

If it does then you can have it lock the doors when you start driving or when you shift out of park then you can have it lock them when you go to park or when you shut the ignition off. Thats how the Civics are at least.

on the US Sport model:

if you press the lock button on the remote, the alarm will set.
if you hit the lock button twice on the remote, a wimpy excuse for a horn sound will emit from the car, and the alarm will set

if your alarm is going off, you need to hit the unlock button on the key. the key needs to be removed from the ignition before you press the unlock button.

all doors will automatically lock when you reach a speed of 9 miles per hour
