Ipod Mini not working on USB Audio

It says USB NOT SUPPORTED when I plug in my wife's Ipod mini. It's on the list of compatible players, what gives?

Technical FAQs

EDIT: Sorry, 2009 Fit Sport non-Nav

have you tried updating the firmware of your ipod mini cuz in the manual it says that you have to have the updated firmware for it to work.

I have a couple of iPods with the current firmware which prompted the "not supported" message the first time, but have worked fine since the second try. Try it again.

The mini will NOT work in the Fit. The link that you provided was for the Honda MusicLink. The USB connector in the Fit is not the same thing. Here is the list of compatible iPods taken straight from the 2009 Fit owners manual:

iPod 5G
iPod classic
iPod nano
iPod nano 2nd generation
iPod nano 3rd generation
iPod touch
iPhone

Sorry, but the mini will not work. Now's a great time to update your iPod anyway, the new ones are pretty badass.

^ I believe I read on a different thread that it only works with iPod's.

Even if it doesn't work with the mp3 player you have, with the prices of flash drives I think its better to just use those. In case anyone tries to steal anything you can easily replace the flash drive, where the mp3 players cost significantly more.

Not that you should leave mp3 players, flash drives or anything of value in the car in the first place.

[borat] everyone knows the ipod mini is for girls[/borat] lolol.. j/k.

Probably only by connecting the analog headphone output to the Aux input.

You're better off using a USB flash drive in the car.

Is there a certain way you must format the mp3 files on the usb drive. Will the fit just play randomly? or will it go by album, artist, ect?

Man, that's the 64 thousand dollar question. Lots 'of theories as to how the Fit chooses play order.

Myself, I think it uses the IDxxx tags to choose artist order, but that may be dependent on the setting of the "title" button.

I use a free program called CD-EX, I ripped about 70 CD's to my hard-drive, then copied to my flash drive, the albums play alphabetically by artist. I should change the "title" button setting to "track name" and play for a while, maybe it then sorts alpha by track name. (I haven't tried that). I prefer to listen to "albums" as a set of songs. Prolly showing my age!! LOL.

I format my USBs FAT32 and they work fine.

Tunes purchased from iToons have DRM - to play those, you must first burn to CD (allowed in iTunes), then re-import the CD (which come in as non drm'd.) You can then xfer those files to USb and play in the Fit.
