scratched bumper!!

some a55hole seems like try to park and seems like made a huge scuff on my rear bumper drivers side. the paint is off and i really want to avoid taking it to a bodyshop. is there any other way around this? damn.

the scratch is a couple inches long. deep enough to see the black of the bumper. i will post pics soon.

any tips on what to do without taking it to a body shop.

Try Meguiars ScratchX first and see how it looks after. It can hide most of the damage but the part where its down to plastic might still show. Still, you'd be surprised how much better it looks.

touch-up paint and any other cover-ups would be noticeable...

Insurance would cover it but more than likely it will be under your deductible...

Best thing to do is drive to a couple of REPUTABLE body shop and ask for CASH quotes... around my area (So CA)it should be around $100+ depending on how bad is the damage...

Hope this helps!!!

well, actually, you still gotta pay your deductible, w/e amount you have. It's considered collision. so you may have to compare your deductible with the cost of getting it repaired by an auto body shop before you go ahead and call your insurance company. I should of mentioned that before, sorry!

Edit: what he said.. ^

Don't bother with touch up paint for the most part - maybe if you're desperate but it will be visible. Try ScratchX and see if you can live with it after... it worked for me before and almost got rid of all the damage except for a small part where it was down to the black. Certainly doesn't look anymore like another car scratched it all up.

Insurance means deductible - but a bumper is way easier to deal with than any sheetmetal... they can drop it and repaint it easily enough.

if you really want, you can just get some touch up paint(not just the paint itself, i used clearcoat, then basecoat, and some paint adhesive). I was fooling around in a parking lot, and i scratched my front bumper. I got some paint from paintscratch.com. fixed it right up. now, you can't tell the difference.
