Ok, got the blue dot shiny emblem but now the weather here is -5 Celcius! Our temperature took a serious nose dive lately. Now I'm wondering if I should switch out the logos NOW or wait until next year when the temp warms back up? I really want to install immediately but am concerned about how removal/installation will work when it's so cold out. Any thoughts?

Do the installation in a heated garage or parkade. The temperature of the hatch and the logo should both be at +15 or higher IMO. Surface must also be perfectly clean.

Thought as much. Since I don't have access to said heated garage, I'll hold off until next year. That is going to KILL me! Have my blue dot Fit logo sitting at my desk in my office so I can look at it and hope for a speedy Spring!

+Rep to you for providing some input! Thanks...that's all I needed would be for my shiny new blue dot logo to pop off with the cold...

Thanks, I think you're the only one who ever give me +reps!

If I were in your shoes, I'd find a friend with an unheated garage and do it there. On a relatively warm day, bring a hair dryer to heat up the body and the emblem before applying. Because the emblem has an adhesive backing, it doesn't need any time to set (like an epoxy or glue would) as long as you have favourable temperatures and good pressure during application.

But before applying the new emblem, the hair dryer also enables easier removal of the original which can be removed using dental floss or fishing line. Use painter's masking tape to mark the position of the original before removing.

Thanks for the procedure. I had that "down" (use hair dryer to soften adhesive, run dental floss behind, remove left over "goo" with "goo-b-gone, polish paint underneath) for removal. I can do that even now at -3. What I'm worried about is application of the new emblem. I want to be darn sure that it is going to stay on as tight as the stock emblem. Without a heated garage, I don't see what I can do to ensure proper adhesion given our cold temps....

I still believe that adhesion will be excellent even if done in an unheated garage, provided that the emblem and body temperatures are high enough, and that you apply decent pressure during application. To be sure, you can position a 100 W incandescent light a few cm from the new emblem for a couple of hours to maintain temperature. Or, you can wait 7 more months!

I really want to apply the new emblem but the safer route would be to wait, yes, about 7 months! Arrghhh....I may throw caution to the wind and attempt this anyways, with the hair drier.

I can see your dying to install the new logo...

I'd probably wait for a ~warmer day (maybe a few degrees warmer), and use the hair dryer. Its a tape adhesive type backing, so whats the worst that can happen? It falls off? So you replace it, aren't the logo's relatively inexpensive anyway?

So either wait till winter's over, or try it now.

Um, here in Canada $29 PLUS tax so not what I would call "relatively inexpensive". I'll check the forecast but "warmer" may still be under 5 degrees Celcius. Right now we're at -3 plus windchill...

I'll have to take some close-up shots of the 1st generation vs. 2nd generation logos. The first one really has a great design to it.... Staring at me in front of my computer, begging me to install it on the GR8 Pumpkin. Freaken Sudbury weather!

Actually, the adhesive backing on your new emblem is like crazy glue or a magnet. It should tack on immediately and effectively, even in cold temps. Once it's on it doesn't want to come off, so be reassured that you can do this at -5 C.

JUST DO IT!!!!

Hey, it's been stupendously hot here in L.A. and even hotter in Vegas where I just came from. I'm sick of the hot temps. Wanna switch?

Um, I think I win for crappiest weather. Mind you Ottawa just got a major snow storm yesterday so that would trump just plain cold.

Ah.... I'd +Rep you again but apparently I must "spread the rep". Think I'll just buck up and do it. Kind of like how I bought the Orange Revolution Sport vs. Tidewater LX in the first place! JUST DO IT....
