When would be your normal RPM shift?

Hey folks,

I got a new 2009 FIT and am a new stick learner. What would you say is the best RPM range for each gear change?

no I think vtec kicks in at a little over 4500 actually? And I shift around 3k. At 5k+ the engine friggin SCREAMS. It's pretty awesome.

I shift at 3K for normal semi-agressive city driving. When I get on the highway, I don't shift into 5th until I'm cruising with traffic, sometimes that RPM is between 4 and 5k. If I feel like being gentle and I'm in no hurry, I shift at 2k and I'm in 5th by 35 MPH. Of course these are general guidelines and road conditions may cause you to change.

For a new manual driver, I recommend learning to drive as much as possible without the tach. Spend some time just listening to the engine noises and how it feels when it wants to be shifted. Shift when you feel the engine wants to be, not at a predesigned RPM.

Despite having the GD3 sports (which is automatic) I'll usually put it in manuel and using the paddle shifters. this is especially useful going up hills and actually trying to get power, because the auto doesnt want to behave and upshifts and downshifts randomly. if im going uphill ill go up to speed and just stay in 4th gear. if i want power ill shift around 4-5k rpm so i can get the taste of that vtec. i rarely shift at 6k because i want to avoid redline at higher gears.

I'm on my second Fit. Manual transmissions only. I drive the sh*t out of my Hondas, and I haven't been able to break one yet.

The Fit is a blast to drive. Just enjoy it.
