In the market for a new car need help

I'm going to be buying a new car in the next month or so and i have a short list atm

09 pontiac wave
07 city golf
09 honda fit
09 civic sedan
09 ford focus
09 yaris

I know thats alot of cars and i'm sure since we are on a honda forum thereis going to be some bias, but what do you guys all think out of those is the best bang for the buck? Also they will all be just the basic trim but with automatic trans.

What are your priorities? Reliability, fun facter, MPG, cost, space, comfort, ....

For me, reliability, comfort (for 4 adults), price, Fuel Efficiency, carry stuff when needed, and a bit of fun.

I am leaning towards the 09 Fit Sport AT (also looked at Yaris & Matrix, a little at Corolla.) Fit has more back seat head room (I carpool) and optional cargo space than Yaris & Corolla, I thought more comfortable that the Yaris, and has more of the 'fun' factor than the Toyota's. MPG is worse than the Yaris and more expensive.

Coming from a VW, I'm really only looking at Honda & Toyota for reliability, so I didn't really consider other brands on your list....

Sounds like you've already narrowed it down to the Fit and Yaris - the Fit is more fun of course.

Out of those i would have to say the fit would be good for u. But i do love the GTI they just look so nice. The Fit is a good economy car hands down it gets way better MPG than stated. Its a honda so should last a life time. Cheap to work on fun to drive to. Not a great interior but for the price its nice

I agree with everyone else here, pretty much between a fit or yaris in your case. If I wasn't so big on honda, I would definitely be getting myself a yaris rather than a fit. I think the yaris is a pretty good bang for your buck. You most likely can get one under msrp a lot easier than you would a fit, the fit is just nicer and probably more fun to drive.

If there was a reason to not get the Yaris (or Scion xb/xds) it would be them goofy center instrument panels. Toyota makes good cars, but they're basically appliances... gets you point A to point B without trouble.

The Civic has had its share of reliability issues this time around, it costs more than the Fit and has less space versatility. The only reason one might want to buy a Focus is for Sync (which is mostly a toy IMO) or if it was the Euro Focus. I'm not even sure what the Wave is. VWs... nice rides but generally unreliable.

I just got myself a FIT and i was choosing between a Yaris and a Fit. I chose FIT because:
- it doesn' t remind myself that I am in a cheap car (although it's 1000 more than the Yaris)
- has a real trunk
- trust more on Honda's safety. Yaris doesn't have side airbags until very late into their model years, which kinda get me a feeling that they have some problems getting them engineered properly
- the center guage on yaris just doesn't make sense. at least they should have the rpm guage right in front of the driver

But i do hate the fact that the automatic saves more gas than the manual....which is one of the reasons I want to get the manual. i will probably leave my spare tires in the garage to improve mileage =). What's even more bothering me though is that the new civic saves a bit more gas on highway than the Fit too......but then you are talking about 0.1 of a difference.....

Better have a look at crash data. When you are talking about small cars especially, it is a critical consideration.

I assume you mean an '09 City Golf? If so, they started offering a 6-speed auto transmission in '08. Something no other manufacturer offers. But it's got crappy fuel economy and old technology otherwise.
