Question security lights

I picked up my new '09 storm silver sport AT Fit late yesterday afternoon and arrived home (60 miles away from the dealership) after dark. When I locked up the car using the security system button on the key, I noticed two blinking red lights inside. One the left of the dash and a smaller one on the right, past the radio area, which never turned off. Is that normal? I've been driving a well used '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee (240,000 miles) and this is my very first ever new car purchase. I read the manual about the security lights on the dash but it didn't say if they are suposed to always stay on blinking, all night. If so, wouldn't that drain down your battery after a while? I've been told that there are no dumb questions - I hope that this is not the first!

Yes, it's normal. Welcome to the millenium. The light on the left is the car security system, the one on the right is the audio security. They won't drain the battery.

Thanks for reassuring me about the flashing lights. I loved the "welcome to the mellenium" post! You can see by my name -Mimi B- that I am a grandmother (actually, I have 12 grandchildren). There are so many "new" things out now, with changes every day. I'm dancing fast to try to keep up just a little bit. I had to laugh when my 15 year old grandson saw my new car. His comment was "WOW, that's SICK!! Then my daughter assured me that "sick" means really good!

I do wish there was a horn sound or something when you lock it up though with the keyless entry.

horn sound?

My '09 honks the horn when we lock it with the remote/key thing. Either that or there is a pissed off tree frog getting zapped every time we hit the Lock button!

Yeah if you hit the lock button on your keyless entry twice, it honks.

yeah. the LED lights use such a tiny amount of energy that it would take an incredibly long time for it to drain. The battery would probably die from other reasons first.

Ohhhhhh... I didn't know the light on the radio was for the radio. I just thought there was an extra one stuck in there for some reason.

My old security system was a crappy car nobody would want to steal.

I recently installed these Fiamm dual horns on my car and today I'm sure it saved me from being crashed into. Some idiot was rounding a corner, executing the corner entirely while looking over his left shoulder and was about to plow into my front end. My loud horn grabbed his attention, and I don't think my stock meep meep horn would've been as effective.

Saved Me Too!

I've used those horns on motorcycles for decades and they haved saved me a couple of times. I have seen the faces of people that were cutting over on me when I honked them, and they were not expecting a bike when they turned to look....

YOU GO GIRL!!! I think it's great that you're on this forum, educating yourself about your new Fit. This site is pretty great and any questions receive multiple responses. If you have any more inquiries, don't hesitate to post away! FitFreak needs more of us around to add that "special" touch...
